I watch Gunsmoke on TV everyday! I've never heard the radio version before and I'm a big William Conrad fan. I was surprised that the theme song transferred from the radio show to the TV show. Awesome!! I'm 51 so I grew up watching Gunsmoke with my grandpa in the early 70's. Just subbed!

Most of the half-hour episodes of the TV series were adapted from the radio scripts. This one wasn't.

One of the best scripts of the series, written by Antony Ellis.

William Conrad was perfectly cast as Matt Dillon, with a deep, authoritative voice and more than a hint of vulnerability. Dillon was a man who couldn’t be bought and maintained an unyielding sense of justice. To be sure, we need many more like him in the halls of power today.

Antony Ellis later adapted his script for “The Ride Back” into a film of the same title starring Anthony Quinn and William Conrad. Conrad once again plays a lawman, but one that is very different from Matt Dillon. He’s a Marshal who has been dragged down by life and is trying to redeem himself by bringing in outlaw Quinn. It’s a decent western.
