A)Play-
David Mamet's play "Oleanna" is about the power struggle between a university professor and one of his female students.In the play, the student accuses the professor of rape which destroys his career and personal life.The play is a two-character piece that explores the issues of power, gender and language manipulation.
B)Characters-
1)Carol-A woman of 20(this is the only description Mamet gives of her in the play.It is entirely up to the reader or the performer to figure out who she is).
Carol, in my opinion, comes from a humble socio-economic background.She is hypersensitive, politically correct and manipulative.She enjoys playing the victim and is vindictive.
Your interpretation of Carol's character in the play will determine whether you see her as the protagonist or antagonist.If you view her as the protagonist, you will see her as a courageous young woman who stands up against the patriarchal system.If, on the other hand, you see her as the antagonist, you will see her as someone who uses the feminist movement to further her own negative goals.
