Absolutely awsome, the only thing i don't like ahout the boxer, is that low contrast LCD screen. The OLED mod just fixed it right, can't wait to upgrade mine, thank you for the great work!

Thank you. Actually, after a few weeks field test, At direct sunlight condition, the default LCD is better readable than OLED. The brightness of OLED need to be a little brighter(by firmware fix or more hardware mod), protection sticker suffer OLED brightness. I make window at protection sticker. Except direct sunlight condition, OLED is looks good for me!

I've just done this on the Zorro, all working fine on edgetx 2.9 Very beautiful, thanks for this. The board wiring is easy to figure out. Looking at the LCD connector wit the Backlight connector on the left the pinout is 1 to 12 from left to right so opposite as the boxer pinout. There's a vertical row of capacitors just above the LCD connector. The right side of the bottom one is pin 7 (3.3V). The horizontal row of resistors to the right of the capacitor are pins 8 to 12 from left to right all looking at the board with the backlight connector left and the LCD connector right. I just took GND from the backlight connector and soldered all the other wires directly onto the resistors or the cap.

Nice looking mod, though I'll probably stick with the original screen. At some point, I'd like to mod the pocket folding antenna onto the boxer. I see radiomaster is now selling the antennas on their website and hopefully some of the more local shops to me will carry them soon.

Thank you, Both are SPI interface, but detailed setup is different. Orginal LCD is SPI mode 3 but OLED is SPI mode 0. SPI mode is type of signal detection timing. Clock, initialize code are also different. Please check here : github.com/DongkwanYi/OLEDBOXER

It's a totally different animal. The MCU of BOXER has not enough resources for color screen.

I prefer a screen mod like the TBS Mambo LCD with negative display, just buy a polarizer and change to negative. In sunlight, don't worry about the screen as LCDs do better in sunlight and are easier to read without using a backlight. Anyway, good modification!

Love this mod. I just received my boxer today. I will be doing the mod later on down the road. I was wondering if you might have any idea how to replace the two 2 position switches with 3 position switches???

Thank you, 2POS switches has 2 pin connector, 3POS switches has 3 pin connector. I think it needs resource mod and hardware mod. I'll trying it, but cannot be guaranteed.

Hi, I look at the boxer's PCB, I found a MCU(15W408) for switch/pot interface. The MCU and hardware wirings and firmware resource reallocation are needed for your requirement. It is hard for me. I'm sorry for not being able to accommodate your request.@@blakelove4058

Well, frankly, direct sunlight condition mean varies. At peak summer sunlight , stock LCD is more readable. In other condition, OLED is superior. And flickering at fast screen movement is less.

I'm sorry for more detailed information. I don't have Zorro. But I'm sure about feasibility for Zorro. Because Zorro, Boxer, TX12MK2, Pocket has far similiar circuit and firmware. They even use the same MCU.

What are you expecting to gain by doing this? or did you do it because you could? I would love to know what the visibility of the screen is in direct sunlight.

I'm hoping for better visibility initially, the results at direct sunlight were not as desired. But except in direct sunlight, like under the shade or room condition, OLED is looks good for me. To be precise, it is a cosmetic aspect, personal preference. Because of Brightness issue at direct sunlight of OLED, I'm in the process of improving the OLED mod. As you know, the screen for monitor has evolved from LCD to OLED. I would appreciate it if you could understand in this context.

Some OLED panel is switchable between SPI and I2C. Check it. BOXER support only SPI interface.

Great work - but why? You've replaced a 128x64 low power monochrome sunlight readable display with a 128x64 high power monochrome poor in sunlight display. Or did I miss something?

You are right. At direct daylight, default LCD is better than OLED. For this reason, I make a window at LCD cover(part name : Lens sticker). Except direct daylight, like in shade or room condition, OLED is looks good for me. OLED power consumption is acceptable, I think. At 10% pixels on, it draw 0.5mA(6.5mW) typical, at 100% pixels on, it draw 17mA(71.5mW) typical.
