Another top-notch how-to video from the master-modeler. Thank you. I have been busy applying coats of stain to my modest little kayak boat model every day for a week or more. I am taking my time with it. It is the seventh boat I have built. I took a break from more complicated boats just to do this small kayak.

I've never seen the practice of cutting off small pieces of solder then applying them. Great tip, I'm going to try that this weekend, beats having to use a third hand tool to hold things while you solder.

@OlhaBatchvarov Жыл бұрын
Merci!

The hull is radial and this piece of plywood did not want to take a radial shape without a soldering iron)))

Olha, after you solder the metal parts & fittings, are you using some kind of "bluing" chemical that works on copper, brasses, _and_ solders too in order to darken the finished pieces properly? I wouldn't have remembered that solders would darken like that, but now I can remember my Dad using something to darken the lead on his stained glass. I also like your idea of using a larger soldering iron tip to help speed up the wood glue drying time!
@OlhaBatchvarov3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Yes, that is BRAS SBLACK - this liquid evenly blackens all these metals...

Olha, you say you use liquid flux but could you be more specific. I come from the world of model railway where I build brass model locomotives and one must be careful of the type of solder and flux used as solders can have varying melting temperatures and fluxes designed to suit. Some of those fluxes though are quite corrosive and if not washed off immediately will cause problems with adjacent materials and wreak havoc on painting. In most cases the parts need to be thoroughly washed. Hence the question about the type of flux as it appears you use regular electronics solder though is it fluxed core or not? is it lead based? I also note that you chemically black some components before soldering. Perhaps and explanation to some modeller as to why you do this would be helpful: i.e. for soldering joints where movement is still necessary - blackened parts not accepting solder regardless of flux and heat.
@OlhaBatchvarov3 жыл бұрын
I know that this flux (Tinning flux liquid) is used for making stained glass, that's how I borrowed it for the first time from my friend... I heard that railway modelers avoid flux at all. But I always blacken all my details and everything always works (I think Brass Black washes away all the remnants of the flux well because I've never had any problems with it). Sometimes when I forget and blacken before soldering, then this process requires a little hotter soldering iron and everything works again...
