Olight I1R vs I1R 2 - which one do you like?

I've had the old one for several months and I really like it. I just got 2 of the new ones the other day so I don't have a lot of time with it. My first impression though is pretty good. I've never had to use my keychain light for longer than a minute at a time usually so I'm not too concerned about losing some of the battery time. My biggest thing is that the old one seemed to have a little warmer light where the new one is white looking. It's not a bad thing but it's the biggest difference I've noticed. Thanks for the comparison! I'm stoked about the head not coming off too!

I like them both. They each have great features. I am happy the new light does have improvements. They sure do come in handy when your reading a book at night.

Very good test. I have both .For me better lighting old version , light is more focused in point. You can more control this light .

Yep and he made me feel a bit better about buying three of the old model today without knowing about the new one ..i like the longer runtime..... not in love wioth the old charge system tho.

For a keychain light I would take the floodier one. If you need a small thrower I would spend a little more and get the Nitecore TUP. It's more bulk than I would put on my keychain, but it has a perfect 1000 lumen combo beam from a light the size of your thumb, with a runtime indicator. That thing is amazing.

I've had the I1R on my keychain for a year and love it. I just got the I1R2 and think that will go in a home kit until it's needed to replace the old one. I also just got the I3T specifically for when I go fishing to backup my head lamp after I had a head lamp die on me last summer on the hike half way back to the car (what can I say - fishing had been good that night).

Random Hydrocarbons me too, had none since November 2018 but its starting to play up hence why i am here seeing the difference. I want a new one coz it was good but now it shows as fully charged but is no longer very bright and doesnt change output mode when i do it up

I just finished watching another review comparing these two lights, and I ended up thinking I'd go with the original l1R. After watching your review I believe it has confirmed in my mind to stay with the l1R. I just don't see enough more in the flood to want to lose the greater distance, and most especially the run times! And honestly, I would never want to admit that I actually lost the light head during charging...so for me that's not an issue. Thx for the review, as it was helpful.

I noticed the different tint to the light as did Jeff Smith. To me the original had better light for perception. I suppose the warmer tone combined with the point made about being more of a flood is why I do not notice the additional brightness particularly in the new version. To me the only improvement, although a big one, is the head being attached. If I could get the attached head feature on the old one I prefer the old beam, tint and runtime. A cooler color (which are often more efficient as far as I know) and shorter runtimes do not seem to be pluses. Hmmm...a model i1R 3 EOS anyone? For keychain or as a zipper pull the new one might get the nod. For use as a flashlight I think I prefer the old one. Plus it comes with the micro USB cord in the box which is very useful with powebanks or hooked to the micro-dock III. Unless they have modified the OlightStore webpage even if you purchase multiple i1R 2 EOS lights you are going to only be able to order one cord. Possibly many do not use them, but I find them handy and also better for a gift presentation. I put a small lanyard loop on mine with cordage from Lawson Equipment, using the lanyard knot as tied by Tobias (of homemade-gifts-made-easy (also on KZbin) and often hang it on a Ti ball chain from CountyComm. The bit of lanyard loop or tail also makes the flashlight easier to operate one handed and hold onto it. Further with it just long enough to feed through itself it makes it easy to attach and detach from chains and such. In short, I prefer the older i1R EOS for use as a flashlight, and find it frustrating that to obtain the attached head one needs the new i1R 2 EOS which is better for attaching to high stress items such as keychains where despite the frequent jostling the head cannot be lost. I want a model 3. ;-) It may be my eyes, but I see better with the i1R. Does anyone else feel this way? Thanks for the comparison review JIUJITSU2000.

I have been carrying Olight I1R since it came out. Just got a couple of the I1R 2 from the black friday sales and have not even unboxed them yet. The I1R is still kicking butt and so I am not in a hurry to use the new version even tho I have a couple on hand. I must not be a true flashaholic if I can wait to unbox a new light.

Had the I1r for over a year, it doesn’t really work anymore. It flickers. Olight replaced it no question asked. Got 2 more I1r 2 eos. Haven’t opened them yet

I've heard that the i1r 2 starts dimming way faster as you run it longer. The i1r version 1 seems to run longer
