Thanks, as usual your videos are thoughtfull and articulate. As far as I know, the strobe function is an artifact of the chip being re-purposed from a bicycle light chip. Personally that blinky function drives me crazy and is uselessl unless you are attacked by an epileptic person:)

LOL. This is it exactly! I just doubt enough statistics point to a tendency of epileptics to become muggers at a high enough rate to create an entire product class to defend against them ;) ... I always think that I'd end up just as blinded by purple spots in my vision as any attacker might if I deployed a strobe in an attempt to avoid a hand to hand confrontation.

Enjoyed the video. Thanks, I'm considering getting the s1a because it's one of the smaller aa flashlights ive seen from a quality torch company. I owned the Archer 1a v3. My son just dropped it down a drain pipe. I was a little bit bummed but stuff happens.

I like both lights quite a lot and they are competitively priced with each other. I like the user interface on the S1A better because no matter what, I can always start at the lowest setting if I want to *or* use the remember last setting feature. The Archer has to cycle all the way through if you want a lower setting than the last one you used. I do have to say that that I occasionally discover the S1A on in my pocket and that never once happened with the Archer 1A.

Essential Gear & Useful Skills Which reminds me. On the s1a...If you start in moonlight and turn it off, will it resume moonlight when you turn it on normally? I kinda hope not.

Yes. If the last setting was moonlight, it will return to moonlight. Unless: 1) You double click the button. If off, double click makes it go straight to turbo. or 2) You triple click the button. Triple click from off results in strobe. Worth description, I guess: No matter what the last setting was you can start with moonlight by press and holding the button. But, it has last function recall so a normal quick click of the button brings you back to whatever it was set to when you last shut it off. So, you have 4 choices of how to start the light. 1- moonlight 2- Turbo 3- Strobe 4- Last Setting recall. The Archer, in contrast, can only be turned on to the last setting. Click the tail switch and it results in the flashlight starting at whatever brightness setting you last shut it off at. You have one choice and one choice only.

Great Vid ! My AA Lights take Lithium Primary no more Alkleaks like My 2 Olight S2A / 2 Zanflare F2 Love them they are Great EDC Lights . I do have more than a Dozen of Maglites Mini AA Lights with Led Conversions 30 lumens to 50 lumens running on 2000mAh Eneloop batteries .

Great to see that you are back with another informative video. You tend to point out useful technical information that many other reviewers gloss over, or miss. I only have a few cheap LED lights, and one that is incorporated into a stun gun, as I prefer to use headlamps as they are hands free, and in my mind, easier to utilize and more efficient. I have been looking at Wowtac, which is seemingly a new brand that has been promoted by Black Scout Survival. They seem to be very high lumen output lights, that are very reasonably priced, and they incorporate a tactical capability too. I just briefly clicked through Wowtacs product listings. They look a whole lot like some of the current and recently last-gen Thrunites. I also see competitive prices but didn't dig deep enough to find out what they charge for shipping or where they ship from. They look like they're worth checking out for sure!
