It definitely affected me mentally & emotionally, starting with the 1st one in 7th grade.

Proud of you saying that concussions are not a joke. I got one when i was in Baghdad for the army, my own fault, i ran to my vehicle to do a radio check and instead of ducking into the vehicle I put my head into the armored top of the door frame. I woke up with my driver and gunner both looking at me as i'm flat on my back, "are you ok?" and i was dumb enough to say i'm fine. I had memory issues for the next 6 months after that. I'm 53 and still do contact sports that involve getting hit in the head...a lot. We are always on the watch for TBI.

Guys, thanks for doing this show! Tua's concussion situation is very serious hits home with me...literally. i played football in high school Benilde St. Magarets class of '91 here in St. Louis Park, MN. I played DE, Punter, Kicker and backup Center. In one practice I was told from teammates and coaches I got knocked out 3 times . Twice doing punt drills vs defense...and once on a kick-off/return. My coach came over to me sitting up by the field fence and told me to take a week-off! It sucked and I thought I let my team down, but ut was for the best! Then my coach made me and our other DE run back kick-offs a year later. First kick-off of the game, I made it through the first line with the ball, then got completely knocked-out from the blindside for my 4th concusion! When incame too...I was on the sideline with the ball still clutched (bear-hugged) in my arms. That was scary! I have no recollection from the time I was hit, until I came to on the sidelines! Only from watching the tape in practice, did I see how horrific that hit was. Scary stuff guys...with CTE being so real, we've seen lifelong/life-ending impacts from head/brain injuries in Football, but also sports like Hockey, and Soccer! God Bless! 🙏✝️🇺🇸🕊️

Maybe not a dumb football question but something I'd like you guys to look at. During that Darnold INT, Ty Chandler was picking up 8 yards per carry with the Niners having no answer to stop him. I guess my question would be why some coaches have issues ridding a hot hand and being ok with slowing the game down? I get Darnold made a bad pass, but even he seemed confused as to why he was going to pass the ball when Ty was cutting up the Niners. Also, Boone, you should ding Mac for giving CJ Ham zero pie for that awesome punt block that put the Niners on their heels.

1. I never understood the how Vikings were going to be so bad just because of Darnold. They had the guys on offense. They have a lot of good guys on defense. Excellent HC and DC. And the lockerroom seems pretty tight. Hopefully, Flores decides he wants to be the next great DC and stay here for a long time. 2. Bears will be looking for a new QB in 2 years. 3. Good to see the Huskers and Patrick Mahomes, Jr. doing well. Finally.

@usa917873 күн бұрын
@@robe2504 Yeah, but does he have the coaching to figure it out? I'm not real sure about the staff in place there. Look at what happened to Fields. And Darnold. And Bryce Young with No coaching even though they were college standouts. I've said it before, you can have Jerry Rice, Cris Carter and Randy Moss as receivers, Gronk as a tight end and Walter Payton as your running back but if you can't grasp the system, get the timing and process the defenses and you don't have the coaches to get you there you're going nowhere. Right now, Williams looks like he's a beginner playing on the expert level of Madden 24.

I forgot on Tua, two years ago when the Vikings played them we were up in Duluth listening to the game as we drove around and I think he was either just past the latest concussion protocol or had gotten like his 3rd in a short time. They were talking about it on the broadcast. I really like the guy but said back then he should retire because it would be a shame to have something really, really bad happen to him because of another concussion.
@robe25043 күн бұрын
@@usa91787 That's why I deliberately said ok, and not a superstar. He probably has too much natural talent, like Kyler, to bust, but maybe not everything he needs to be the superstar many folks are expecting. I think the same about Richardson. Immense physical talent, but seems to have little idea of how to play the position. I'd argue it took Kirk 3 years and Sam 4 years to figure out how to play QB , and then another 2 or 3 to hone their skills and become consistent - I believe we're seeing that now with Sam.

Wanted to contribute some concussion stories that you guys requested. Firstly, I am a 35 year old from Northeast South Dakota. First serious head damage / minor concussion was actually in pre-school or kindergarten and was a bit aloof apparently and wasn't paying attention to people using the swing. Some girl decided to throw a front kick to my temple basically. It didn't knock me out, but I actually remember it still cuz I cried like a bitch and it hurt like hell. Got another one like 8 - 9 years later as a freshmen in training camp for football. I was just getting familiar with the team on the first day, rotating around between corner and safety after a couple hours of drills and warm ups and stretches. Coach had me try to return a punt, and I made a good move and made two people miss at first, but spun right into our starting center and he put his full momentum into his facemask and went head to head full speed. I'm 5'8" 160-165 lbs at the time, and that dude was a full 260 senior. I whiplashed pretty hard on the grass too. Man.... I decided to call it quits on football right then and there. Reason was, I also was a boxer for several years and never once had my bell wrung so easily as it is when you bang helmets. I'm not saying it's 100% related, but ever since that hit I've gotten migraines pretty regularly for the rest of my life. Bulked up and got bigger and healthy, decided to just stick to lifting weights and playing games for fun like handball, racketball, frisbee golf, golf, etc. Anyway, just wanted to share my concussions or what I call them, at least near total KO's. I hope Tua looks out for himself and saves himself for the rest of his life. I'm guessing he already knows he's noticed that there are things that have changed in his mind and body, but only he can feel those things... Just praying for the man, have a good day yall.

@InchonDM3 күн бұрын
@@michaeljohnson8353 I feel like KOC was leaning on the pass in previous years because he knew the Vikings run game was weak, but they had other parts to fix first -- namely the everything on the defense. Now we have Brian Flores doing dark wizardry there, and the Packers have decided they don't need the heart and soul of their team anymore in Aaron Jones, so let's go fix that right up, eh?

I don't remember anything about the remainder of the shift, including the interaction with teammates on the bench. Apparently, when it was asked, "Kenny, you good dude?" My response was who the fuck is Kenny? I spent the next 3 to 3 1/2 weeks on my bed in a dark room before symptoms went away, and I was cleared to play again. That was my 3rd and by far the most severe. It is absolutely nothing to mess around with.

Ok, my concussion story: I was playing the other football (soccer) in an Austin rec league at Zilker park 40 years ago. I was told the following...I jumped at an awkward angle to head the ball, and a guy on the other team jumped late. The top of his head hit me square in the temple and out went the lights. However, I was still functional. The refs got me to the sideline, but my team sort of forgot about me. Another game was in progress on the field next to ours. I wandered over and started playing . Again, the refs had to stop the game and get me off the field. I woke up in a minor emergency center a few hours later while I was tossing my cookies in the toilet. Yeah, Tua needs to retire.

I know a lot of people are saying the decision is up to Tua but I think the NFL or Dolphins should step in. They should force him to retire and give the Dolphins a pick to compensate them but Tua isn't the only person affected by this, no one wants to be the person who hits someone and kills them on the field or permanently disables them. Also I think that some people are just susceptible to concussions, I was in the Army and playing football i got tackled and fell back like Tua and hit my head on a rock and ive slipped on ice and went horizontal and hit my head and other times but I never had a concussion, I have other health problems but I have taken so many head hits without a concussion and thats why i was so surprised with tua got concussed the first time from falling backwards but i have seen other people get concussions the same way since.
