Hi Mark! I've been watching your olive videos (until I can watch all of your videos) and it's so clear you are so passionate about your garden and your plants! I'm trying to plan my own garden and thought I would somehow mess up an olive tree if I had one, even in Southern California where we have a Mediterranean climate, but your videos and thorough explanations have really given me the confidence that I could care for an olive tree. Thank you so much for all your hard work! You're amazing :)

Wow. Thank you for this brilliant comment. I find this very motivational and I'm inspired to carry on. Good luck with your okive tree. It sounds like you have the perfect climate. Best wishes. Mark

Great video! Ok to put the olive trees that close to foundation and driveway? I have a 24inch wide space i want to plant along my drive way but don’t want the roots to eventually lift up the concrete.

Just read the other comments on here about roots disrupting foundation. Let me know if you learned anything more. Looking forward to continue to watch your other videos!

Hi Craig. I read your comment and recalled the other comment about roots. I think there is always a conversation to be had around this. And at the end of the day it's your call. Personally I'm not concerned about it. But I feel you are right to ask and should carefully make your own decision on the matter. Best wishes. Mark

Hi Mark, Good morning to you and hope you are well and having a great weekend. I have been watching all your videos with great excitement and have learned a huge amount from your amazing knowledge and enthusiasm. The cottage and garden look amazing, so well done to you. I have been watching most recently your videos on olive trees and bays and just wondered, if I wanted to hard prune them, whether I should ideally wait until nearer the end of May? They are 5-6 year-old potted trees that have never really grown that well, and I suspect they probably need to be re-potted. But just wondering if I could prune them first and then see how they respond over the summer? And then re-pot them later on, as they are very large terracotta pots and will have to enlist someone strong to help. I also note that your rosemary is doing far better than mine. What’s your secret? I never seem to have much success here in London with the heavy clay. Perhaps just add lots of horticultural grit/sand before planting? Many thanks again and keep posting the fantastic videos. All best wishes Tim

I live in Memphis, Tennessee. The winters in Memphis are erratic in that they can be mild but other winters it can go below ten degrees Fahrenheit with a considerable amount of snow and ice. The Temple in my neighborhood has two large olive trees in the front of the driveway. In spite of ice , snow and weeks of freezing temperatures, they are doing great this year. The music director advised purchasing trees native to Israel because they are resilient in winter weather. How do I know which trees are native to Israel?

Hi there, I'm wondering if the root system would damage the pavement? how would you keep it from growing to much?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK2 жыл бұрын
Hi Luis. Mine are always going to be pruned to their current size. I won't allow them to get any bigger. I'm actually not sure about root damage on the pavement. It's a good question. Are you thinking of mine or yours? Mark

Hi Mark, thank you for the video. Can one plant a very young, short olive tree in the ground? Or when are olive trees ready for planting in the ground? Thanks.

@@MrGman6897 Ive got one in the greenhouse, hoping to get some this year. I'm scotland too
@MarksHouseandGardenUK2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes you can. I had some last year. But there is a knack to it. When i researched it i learned. They blossom on growth which has overwintered. They need a period of cold weather to fruit. The flowers are usually wind pollinated, they need a light breeze. They need feeding and watering well to help the fruits swell. With a greenhouse it might be worth trying an experiment. Bring them out in the hot summer months then bring them in the greenhouse as the days start to cool. I'd love to hear how you get on. Watch my top ten tips video for more info on the pruning regime for fruiting. Thanks for watching. Best wishes. Mark

Oh no. You planted your tree too close to your facade. I did the same with a cherry tree years ago. The roots crept under the house and did serious damage.

Very useful information, thank you - but !, hopefully some constructive advice: the video is several minutes too long, lots of unnecessary repetition, plus the oddly uncomfortable heavy breathing sound (which I’m sure can be easily corrected with an alternative mike placement or better mike). I respectfully suggest a shorter overall video, perhaps 7 to 8 minutes max, as I believe that is the current, and ever shortening, audience attention span. You already have the skill & techniques to achieve this. Hope this feedback is of some value.
