A mechanic at my old MF dealership was using a chisel to try to spread open a tractor hub, and like you said, flew out like a bullet! To this day, that chisel is embedded in the insulation of the shops ceiling! 😂

That one decided to fight to the end. My grandpa would loosen the bolts and go plow a while to loosen them up before he tried to move the hubs. But flat tires kinda makes that idea not possible

That hub was a battle of sadness to the end. Sometimes hard-fought battles give you a sense of success despite the frustration.

What about an air chisel? Maybe giver some heat and then air chisel away?

Maybe but that probably would just bust chunks out of the cast.

Ok 😁 Great job . RUST is the problem. SO you need a way to put a bucket on the axel cover and soak it in Evapo rust remover. thanks

Whew, that was a tough one. I was afraid for a minute there you were going to have to bust the hub to get it off. Congrats.

A couple of years ago I saw someone on KZbin convert a jack for horizontal use. Of course I forgot it in a couple of days, but it can be done.

Or whatever you have laying around for the jack? Last time I added oil I grabbed the bottle off the shelf clearly marked hydraulic jack oil and topped off the jack in question before discovering at some point the bottle now held chainsaw bar sauce…. After draining the porta power pump it was filled with regular hydraulic juice.

I’m pretty disappointed in that you actually used a big hammer 😂. I would have thought the 4x4 would have been the correct tool to use as a hammer. Success is so sweet. Have a great day

That looks like it was a royal P.I.T.A.!!!!!!! I changed a wheel center on a 400 Farmall this morning, not near as much work as you went through! Never had a tractor with splined axles and not running out to buy one either! That much anti-seeze would probably cover you head to tow three times over.

On a pot a power the jack sets level on the ground , a hose goes to the cylinder. I'm sure that is the difference. What about a screw jack?

Use shorter strokes and let the pump get filled with oil. 10w motor oil or 10w-30w will work. Thick oil just will not flow into the pump as well. When you get to the end shorter strokes will make the fallout not as dangerous. Different strokes for different folks. BTW, If you break any more stuff today, I am going to turn the Sun off for 4 minutes and 30 seconds today so everyone should put money in the big kettle in front of me or I will turn the sun off forever. Aww Hell, I am going to do it anyway. We are dead center for the maximum amount of totality for the eclipse of 4-8-24. We went to the Garden of the Gods in So. IL. and was in the totality of the eclipse. Traffic after the eclipse will be bumper to bumper leading away from the path of totality when the event is over. We are going to our daughter's resort 4 miles south of here for an eclipse party.
