We were a John Deere farm in my youth, but we used Oliver plows. They had more clearance and plowed stalks without disking much much better than the John Deere plows of the day. It wasn’t until we tried the 2800 series John Deere plows that we switched back.

My uncle had an Oliver flex back 10 bobem plow he had a 3300 Steiger open station it was a good plow tractor setup. The Steiger tractors where first made in a barn about 30minute drive away so you see a lot of barn Built Steiger around.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris yes, it was, but I was back by my woods, behind my house, so sat down on the ground and took it off, scraped the dirt off the frog, and proceeded to put the share back on. I just watched one of your older videos, I have a 2150 and that shield you have on your parts wall of shame makes me nervious dont want hydraulic drive bearing to mess up my housing, I also wonder about the engine pre heater after what happened to your 2-155 engine. Do you think Oliver's have more problems that John Deere's. I am Oliver fan all my life(71 years), but seems like 4020 s and 4440 s were pretty dependible.
@ThatOliverGuyChris4 жыл бұрын
I think every tractor out there had bugs that needed worked out. I have almost zero experience with John Deeres, so I wouldn't be able to do a fair comparison. As long as a guy shuts it down when you hear an odd noise, it's a fairly simple fix on that hydraulic drive gear. The big problem arises when guys hear the noise, but everything is still working, so they keep on running.

Hey Chris another good video!! That disc with the manual folding wings looks like my Oliver # 252 disc. What size Oliver plow would you suggest for a super 88 or 880? I would like to find something for plow days and such.
@ThatOliverGuyChris4 жыл бұрын
I'd stick with a 3 bottom. Some guys pull 4, but you never know what kind of ground you'll run into at a plow day. I had the 1655 FWA and 3-16s at a plow day that made it bark and scratch!
@charlesworthfarm75864 жыл бұрын
did you ever have one of the oliver plows with the subsoiler shank behind each bottom?
@ThatOliverGuyChris4 жыл бұрын
I've seen that option in the literature, but had never seen a plow equipped with it. While cleaning and moving stuff around back in the summer I found I have enough to put a set on a 5 bottom. I also found a hydraulic hillside hitch for a semi mount plow. I should have thought to mention that stuff in the video.

Salford uses the same concept as the Flex back in the model 8200 plow. The Salford website doesn't show it off very well, but there is a 8200 on Marketbook that shows the canuck version of the flex back. They go from 7 furrow to 14 furrow. We have our White 254 disc.
