Take the carb apart and clean it and clean the jets and just get a kit for it. if you have a compressor blow out the jets when its apart. The inside of the bottom of the bowl may need a scrape. Read the manual to find out how to set the float height with the new needle and seat in the rebuild kit . When you put it back together wind the idle mixture screw in gently and then undo it 1 and a 1/2 turns and then reset it as necessary. Now for the tank. The plug you pulled out of the tank is the drain plug as its at the lowest point .Now take the fuel filter out too as it will probably have a little brass mesh sock on it to stop the crap through the line. Blow it out too. Here is a method to clean the tank. This should work for most tanks. put the drain plug back. If the fuel filter has a sock on it leave it out and sharpen up a stick and screw it in. Throw in a hand full of clean nuts and bolts or fence staples. Add a quart of diesel and hold it up the right way and shake it for a couple of minutes. it ill act like a miners ball mill. This will loosen most of the sediment in the tank. Why diesel and not gas and nuts and bolts. Diesel wont go bang if you make a spark. Nuts and bolts or staples they are magnetic and if you filler neck extends into the tank you can use a magnet to get them out. Then flush it with a quart or two of gas. You may have to do this once or twice but it is tried and true. Have fun.

Great video hank! I’d start by just sloshing some fresh gas around that tank to clean it before you clean it more throughly. Also might want to put some tank coating in it too. It’s like a paint you pour in and slosh around and it coats the tank. I had to do it on my ‘51 farm all super c.

It's likely time for some actual Carburetor and parts cleaner. Gunk, Chemtool and Mac's are common brands. I prefer Mac's that you get at NAPA, although the others are OK. Completely disassemble the carb and soak it in the parts dip can for a couple hours then rinse with water to neutralize and blow dry all passages. I don't know how familiar you are with rebuilding carbs, so just a few tips. Before removing mixture and idle speed screws screw them in gently and count the number of turns to give you a starting place when re-assembling. Be careful with the float tabs that adjust the float height. Shake the float to insure there is no leakage. If you have an actual radiator shop have them boil out the gas tank. It just works better than homebrewed cleaners. Good luck with this Oliver project. Nice tractor. I once had a Cletrac Bulldozer they were merged with Oliver.

Definitely rebuild the carb - rebuild kits are not expensive and the Marvel-Schebler's are good carbs. :) You've got the skills to do it. If I can do it, so can you! ;) McDonald Carb and Ignition in Jefferson Georgia are great folks to deal with and should have everything you need. Even if you don't see what you need on their webpage, shoot them an e-mail, they've got lots of stuff not listed on their webpage. Makin' progress! You'll probably figure it out but I heard you say the cable is for throttle. It's actually the choke cable. The rod and linkage you disconnected at the top of the carburetor is throttle. It's backwards because it's an updraft carburetor. Those were good because it would be nearly impossible to flood the motor since gas can't drain down into the intake. They could be a little difficult if you had low vacuum, the gas didn't want to pull up into the carburetor. A lot of times compression can be temporarily low on a motor that's been sitting a long time but usually picks up. So it might be a little bit of a job to get it going but not impossible. Looking forward to more.😊

Hi Hank! That carb is very similar to the ones used on Ford 8n's. MS built their products to last. My '50 8n is still using an original MS that I rebuilt. Clean it up real well and get a full rebuild kit from Yesterdays Tractors (or even Amazon). They are VERY easy to rebuild, you just find that there are some small jets that are tricky to get to. I wouldn't buy a new 'cheap chinese carb' unless that one was cracked. Thanks for the great content!

Take that fuel tank To the radio shop and have it boiled out. Then buy a quarter tank sealer to coat the inside of the tank. I would rebuild the carburetor because all the seals are probably dry rotted from sitting so long you might be better off to buy a new carburetor on eBay

Great work Hank. Enjoy watching your videos. I see you have upgraded from your crescent wrench 🔧 or what we call it here in good old Blighty (England) shifter or adjustable spanner 🔧 😂. Keep up the good work and videos coming. For more great tips, you might want to watch Mustie1 or watch Wes work. Mustie1 is always cleaning carbs on his videos. It give you a little more information about what you need to clean and inspect on it. Look forward to the next video.

Everyone of my carbs I just cleaned and reset. They clean up very well. I think I only had to replace a float in one.

The needle seat could be really rusty. Might try soaking it in carb cleaner. Dad gets it from NAPA. You may want to let it soak a couple days to see if it will get the Gump out.
