Oliver Velez: The Power of the 20-day MA

Video Summary: 85% of your losing trades will be removed if you do following: TRADE with the 20. Trade in direction of 20 MA. If 20 period MA is declining it serves as overhead ceiling (resistance) -SELL If 20 period MA is rising it serves as support -BUY As a median line, wavy and sideways buy below 20, sell above 20. When it is rising, we buy at or near the 20 after the formation of Green Bar. where do you buy: at the 20 when do you buy: At the formation of a green bar. If it is declining, we sell at or near the declining 20 after the formation of a red bar. If is is flat: Buy bel0w 20, Sell above 20 Stocks cannot remain away from 20 period MA for too long. This is called the rubber band oscillator back. When they leave the 20, they snap back. Not only we buy at or near the 20. If it goes too far, we play SNAP back to 20.

Stocks as he mentions, prob works decently in any market, indicies, forex crypto, but with stocks, its easier and more poweful to ideintify trends and follow these rules, been trading forex for a while and this sorta works, but there is better thngs to understand in that market for instance. Try te stockmarket with this, you'll make money :)

Wait guys, Choose any MA or EMA, 10, 20, 30, 50, 100, 200 anything.. they all have the same thing. You will find some analogy in all of them. So its not about 20 MA. Its not actually about MA. When you jump into real market, it won't follow because the technique they teach you is very specific & that's why they show pictures of the stock which followed this pattern for sometime. The same stock will not follow it in long term and forget about other stocks. Stop believing this game, a simple secret is level. If you know that Square most trade between 90-94 from past 3 months and then it suddenly drops to 88 and now not able to cross 90 then you are sure that its going to have deep correction.. up to 70-60. You don't need any indicator or MA to judge that.. everything is in your mind because you know that stock pretty well.. that;s how real trader makes money

Important to note that at any point in a chart no matter what timeframe you will notice price bouncing off every SMA or EMA imaginable. However, the key is to use the SMA’s or EMA’s majority of traders use. If your using the SMA’s or EMA’s predominantly used by traders then you can predict how traders will react and capitalize on it. For instance, a cross below the 200 SMA is universally perceived as bearish so this is something you should pay attention to when you trade.

I use a 20 weighted ma and a 20 simple ma. The weighted 20 serves as an alert. When the weighted 20 goes under the simple 20 its time to sell. When the weighted 20 moves above the simple 20 its time to buy. Its actually just before it moves under or above the simple 20 thats the alert. But if you use it you will notice a trend. I also use the VWAP, 50 ma, and 200.

The one thing I could never figure out, whether it using the 20ma or macd, is when you "buy only" on uptrend, or "sell only" on downtrend, are you buying, or selling, just a little at a time? Would it be bad to buy with all your money on the first uptrend, or sell it all on the first downtrend? Is this a risk management thing?

Stan Weinstein taught exactly the same principle. Except he watched the 30-day MA on a daily chart. The difference is his trading strategy was multiple days, weekly or longer though right? 20 day buy/sell works for shorter scheduled trades than 30? I guess I'm confused with Moving averages based on types of charts (1 minute, two, minute, one day, etc).. But I will agree wholeheartedly with the long positions buying at the break above a trending up MA

Yes, that is a good point. Velez does mentions, in other videos, that you will place a stop 2-5 cents below the green bar that you bought below the 20 SMA. If the stock continues to decline you get stopped out with a small loss. If the stock rises then increase the stop to break even. If the stock continues above 20SMA restistance, continue to increase the stop and just go for the ride into big profits.

Thats kind of what I use..but without the 200 its hard to get a down or upward trend so I add the 200 & 100 to the 9 & 20.. The 100 I use when 20 is flat a lot of traders will use the 100 as support..I notice the 9 is a precursor tool as to give direction for the next 2 to 5 min time frame which which helps a lot

While I agree with most of what he said, I by just after it crosses the 20 and rising, He said buy below the 20 and sell above the 20. Buying below the 20 you risk the price going even lower because the 20 will act as resistance. He also said, follow the trend and when the 20 is rising. If the 20 is rising than price is more than likely to be above the 20. I only sell AFTER the trend shows weakness or breaks the trendline. I will give it to the guy. He's great at explaining things!

my suggestion to the director, the shots of the both Mr. Velez and the screen that has the information he's talking about doesn't work because, 1) his head is very small and 2) the screen is washed out. The way to solve this problem is to keep a CU or medium shot on Mr. Velez put him in a box with the background the computer screen that is properly exposed. I've bought several Trade Secret DVD's and they all have this same problem. I wish you could correct this issue.
