Oliver is also the sense of reason here. He also has courage to subtly point out how Dark Night is the “busy” movie. Kinda like Batman Forever but with Heath Ledger blowing shit up, and slashing people’s throats. For a generation of dimwits Heath became the benchmark for artistic greatness.

I felt Maggie offered no improvement over Katie. Yes, people like to make fun of Katie Holmes' performance for a variety of (undeserved) reasons, but it's not like Maggie provided a powerful performance herself. My only issue with Katie Holmes is that she has a very young-sounding voice, so it doesn't so intimidating enough for a no-nonsense ADA who's unafraid of standing up to corruption and the threats that go along with it, but at least she's easier on the eyes. In short, any problem you could say about Katie Holmes' performance could be said about Maggie G's.

There are two points here you ABSOLUTELY nailed on the head. One, you got the editing on the fight scenes spot-on. Batman's initial appearance indeed was correctly shown all choppy, where you don't see what he's doing: he's just this force. But as the film goes on, and he's facing the League of Shadows, and of course Ra's himself, the editing was far too close and quick. Impossible to know what the smeg was going on. Secondly, the film has just the right amount of stuff going on without being cluttered, as you said. Sometimes I like when a sequel has more plots and twists 'n' turns than the original (Shrek 2, for example), but The Dark Knight, for me, felt more like a miniseries. Honestly, when the Joker escapes GCPD and we see him with his head out the cop car, I thought that was the bloody ending. "Begins" is my favourite Batman film. The other films either too murdery (by that, I mean Batman kills - well, he does in this too, but not blatantly), not about Batman at all, or just too silly. As compared specifically to the other instalments in the DK Trilogy, I find "The Dark Knight" far too pretentious and up its own arse, with a dreadful ending, while "Rises" suffered from starting with mistakes made in the previous two. Anne Hathaway was arguably the sexiest-ever Catwoman though. And don't even get me started on Batfleck...

So when he popped up as the Scarecrow for the first time it took me by surprise in a good way. He was always one of my favorite Batman villains so to actually see him onscreen (and be surprised by it thanks to my forgetting his alter-ego) was fantastic. I had to bite the side of my cheek to not shout *"Fuck YES!"* and disturb the other movie goers. And then he was handled the way he was in the other 2 flicks...

Great retrospective Oliver,I personally find this film to be streets ahead of Rises and is my favourite of the trilogy.Dark Knight is great but as you said the ending drags on.

I respectfully disagree with you in regard to the soundtrack you can't compare any soundtrack to this par inception to this one, hans zimmer did an awesome and is one of my favourite soundtracks

Same here. Great review of my 2nd favorite film of all time, but I disagree with you about the score. It's iconic and is better than all those that copied it. Also, the Elfman score just sounds like Beetlejuice to me.

The "problem" with Hans Zimmer regarding a good score is, that he's not a composer, but a damn good programmer of sequencers. The lack of composing skills shows a lot, imo. His music is very trivial. I love simplicity, but I'm not a fan of triviality.

You're my favorite movie reviewer. Not only for the movies you choose, but it doesn't matter how they were received by audiences, you give it such a passion that proves how much of a film fanatic you are. Your editing is really great, your custom trailers are marvelous to watch and you've got a bit of everything for many film fans. I feel like I don't even need to buy the movies to hear the commentaries or watch behind the scenes, instead I can just be intrigued by what you have to say and how well executed everything is. Keep up the good work, man.

15:31 - "When Wayne manor has burnt down, and Bruce is cleaning up the rubble, you can see that English countryside in the background". Trust me, most viewers did not notice the background in that scene.... their eyes were fixed on the foreground :D

Batman Begins is the best Batman film to me because it deeply explored the character of Bruce Wayne and not just Batman. No other live action Batman film to date has explored Bruce Wayne as well as BB. The animated films/TV shows have always done a great job of this and to see it done on film was refreshing to see for a change. When i first saw the trailers for BB, It totally turned me off because it looked bizarre for a Batman film. I was so used to seeing the campy cartoonish Batman that I didn't even recognize this as a Batman film from the trailers. I was hesitant to see BB when it came out but I'm glad I did because it was great film.

Just realized the Fugitive Doctor is in this movie (at 12:51). That is Jo Martin, whose surprise revelation as a forgotten past incarnation of the Doctor in the BBC program _Doctor Who_ caused such a stir.

I prefer Batman Begins as well - its sequels are excellent, with 2nd overhyped and the 3rd one a bit misunderstood.
