Splitting Alan and Ellie up was a big mistake IMO. Alan's whole arch in the original film brought him to the realization that he can be a great father and that he and Ellie would start a family. And making his motivation in this film being money YET AGAIN shows a real lack of originality. Great review as always, Oliver!

I agree, it kinda feels like an intentional slap to the face. I doubt that was the intention but it's really aggravating to feel, not even like you could've skipped the first but that you *should've* skipped the first as it seems to retconn (it doesn't but it feels like it) the entire arc of Dr. Grant from the original.

As much as I loved seeing Sam Neill back as Alan Grant, it annoyed me that he wasn't married to Ellie and that HER replacement was the infinitely annoying Amanda Kirby. Sam deserved a way better film to end on. Also, fun fact, the original idea for the film's climax was the Spinosaurus facing off and being killed by the Raptor pack. But the filmmakers reasoned that if the Spino could kill a T. rex quickly, then the Raptors wouldn't be much of a threat, ultimately depriving the film of a satisfying finale.

Catspaw, Honestly, I never saw it that way. As a kid watching the first film, my impression was that his time spent with the kids made him more open to having a family with Ellie. They had great chemistry, and everything in the film was hinting towards that for Grant's arc. Having that relationship upturned nullified both that ending and his arc.
@fuzzydunlop79285 жыл бұрын

This production gave my old boss a lot of money. They bought a bunch of trees from his nursery to make the airfield on the “island” look more rustic. Then they returned them all when they were done. If they were the villains of the movie, it would've worked because this movie lacked a structural narrative in that it lacked a climax. Not just that, there was no villain( the spino doesnt count), which was why the movie was rather dull and didnt flow well with the entire length of the movie. Its just a series of dinosaurs chasing people plus the bland characters that were not interesting at all besides grant, but in its defense its a good action flick of a good thriller. I loved the pteranadon scene and the spinosaur attacking the cage near the end of the movie but only kept annoying me cuz it keeps cutting back to the kid watching barny which ruin the suspense and intensity of the scene. How the hell am i suppose to feel the sere terror of our characters if you keep cutting back to barny. Come on and the ending was rushed which pissed me off

I love JP3 but they need to stop with the divorcing parents theme in every movie. Lex and Tim's parents in JP1 (which was fine bc it wasn't over done). Malcolm and Kelly's mother are clearly not together (which was fine too bc we get a father/daughter storyline which was cool[also she may be adopted idk] ). Billy's parents are ALSO divorced(it plays into the plot I guess, but again? Really?). Jurassic World was just ridiculous with Zack and Grey's parent's divorce being brought up ALL the time. At least Maisy gave us something new with her being a granddaughter/daughter clone.

I loved the Spino in this. Aside from Dinosaur, T-Rex was always portrayed as the big mighty predator of dino movies. It's in a way exciting to see a predator that's bigger, stronger and a lot meaner. This was a good decision so its not a repeat of the first 2 movies.

I've loved the first Jurassic Park since I was very, very young of course, but I also really liked this one when it came out possibly because I was 10 when I saw it in theaters. However, as an adult I can see that it has one of the dumbest plots of all time. However, that second script idea about the pteranodons getting out and killing on the mainland sounds pretty intriguing. Maybe the movie could've been a reverse Lost World where the first half has dinosaurs attacking in civilization and the second half is the main characters ending up back on the island as they try to figure out how the pteranodons got out, and of course dino chaos ensues.

Spielberg is never in auto pilot. Lost World is so underrated.

Exactly. Don't understand the hatred it gets (inb4 someone mentions the gymnastic scene cause that somehow is the most implausible thing to happen in the series and ruins the whole movie).

Casual Gaming lost world is trash and Spielberg knows it. He did it for a quick buck.

irishfish Spielberg didn't want someone else to make the sequel, but unfortunately he seemed not to give a shit, it's such a lacklustre film.

Strip away the dinosaurs and you’re left with a bunch of deeply un likeable characters, none of which are worth rooting for. Couple that with a horribly contrived plot, and an absurd ending (unless there really is a magic phone number any ordinary citizen can ring in the USA that gets a massive Army/Navy presence deployed halfway round the world in under 12 hours).

@@happyspaceinvader508 Ellie's husband worked for the State Department. That's how she got the military to the island. And the ones who showed up could have been stationed (or sailing) near the island

@@PittsburghSportsFan43 Do you honestly think that they would have deployed that much military resources to save them? The ending was anti-climatic. The whole movie was just a lot of running around and screaming which gets old quick. They don't even take the time to setup the action sequences. Just run, run, run.
@PittsburghSportsFan434 жыл бұрын
@@JLDReactions It depends on how high up the husband was in the department. And yes, generally the US government and military don't like leaving American citizens in dangerous places where they'll likely die. Especially if one of them is a child. I didn't have a problem with how this ended nor did I find it unrealistic. Ellie would have no doubt warned them of how dangerous it was, even if the events of the first two movies weren't widely known. Which I'm sure they were.
@JLDReactions4 жыл бұрын
@@PittsburghSportsFan43 Well, regardless, I still think the ending felt kind tacked on. I felt that movie ended too quickly without any real build to get to it, but then again, I though the whole film lacked build and good pacing.

I've always found it interesting that Grant is so casual when he sees the dinosaurs flying off at the end. The ones that can't fly are harmless as long as no one goes to the island, but the Pterodactylus can go anywhere. They can even attack things like airliners!

There's just something really missing from this one, the sense of adventure isn't really there, it's more of a monster movie than a adventure movie with monster elements. It just seems very lazily wrote and rushed, it's actually quite dark in tone compared to the first two.

6:11 if I'm remembering right, Alan would have been revealed to have been living on Sorna, studying the dinosaurs all Diane Fossey style at the behest of the United Nations. Great retrospective!

The laboratory scene is an interesting plot point that was part of the 2nd book (The Lost World), which Spielberg completely ignored, along with most of the plot of the book. I appreciate that they lifted a lot of scenes from both books for JP3, but they should have been in the 2nd movie, not this one.

I wonder why many people hate it. The more communicative raptors were always enjoyable. Although the lost world is certainly better in my book, the raptors were stupid and maybe killed those hunters in the grass just by chance. The main reason for people to hate this film is that Spino kills T-Rex and is the star of the movie. But you should realise that the same star Dino every time would bore you to the heart. It was smart to introduce another spotlight in a JP film. I don't care about the stupid characters like Amanda Kirby. They provide the comic relief that was not much present in the first 2 films. The Pteranodon was seen for less than 10 seconds in the climax of the first movie. This time they showed us what it can really do. And When Billy wants to steal raptor eggs to fund his dig site,. That's equal to The Weyland-Yutani corporation wanting to use xenomorphs as biological weapons in the Alien franchise.

25:44 I disagree that Billy was forgettable. I loved his character, and still do. I think the fact that he seems almost untrustworthy to be fascinating. Like how did he know Paul Kirby before Alan did? I think he should have been revealed as an InGen recruit.
