This story plot kind of reminds me of the basis of a lot of magical girl/super sentai anime. Strange evil takes over otherwise normal humans and teenagers with attitude are called in to fight them on a case by case schedule. Although, in those shows each of the teens usually get color coded, personality based superpowers to be able to a chance combating the evil.
