She’s hilarious! English women have the most charming personalities - perhaps partly because they’re unencumbered (or at least much less encumbered) by the kinds of ridiculous, all-consuming beauty ideals we’re obsessed with over here. Definitely wish I had had more English /European female influences growing up. Took me a while to realize she was the actress in Sound of Metal! She was fantastic in that
@Imreallyboredsick6 ай бұрын
I disagree with you there. We do have all sorts of ridiculous beauty standards in the UK, especially because, you know, social media is a thing. But I suppose us brits do have a self-deprecating sense of humour. A lot of what you're saying probably rings true in mainland Europe. I love Olivia Cooke, though. I first saw her in a TV adaptation of Vanity Fair about 7 years ago. Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise in Bridgerton, was in it, too.
@calexprenas6 ай бұрын
@imreallyboredsick (YT won’t let me reply directly for some reason) when I look at public figures and celebrities, the wealthy, etc (i think especially obvious if comparing news anchors!) by in large I don’t see that same type of obsession with cosmetic procedures and attempted perfection as I do here, though I take your point that it’s more an issue in the UK than the mainland!
@Imreallyboredsick6 ай бұрын
@calexprenas I'm British, and that's just not true. So many women have cosmetic procedures over here, and you should see the makeup some women wear. I think what you're talking about applies mainly to women in mainland Europe like France in particular. The UK and Ireland are so culturally different from the rest of Europe. Though I found your comment interesting, and it's an interesting topic, let's just agree to disagree.
