To me, this poem is not trying to shame women who enjoy make up and clothes, it's shaming the society for making some women feel like they need these things to be appealing and worthy and acceptable. This poem is saying that the society we live in needs to stop manipulating women and criticizing them in order to make a profit.

I can also go on how mens magazines always show strong, handsome, masculine men to advertise cologne, cars, gadgets and lifestyles. But oh, that does not fit your narrative, only women are specifically targeted based on their gender. right.

well i think you should make a poem about that i would love to hear it and get more problems out in the light

@@XxStonedKillerxX There are so many poems that women make that try to address the social expectations of manhood. I don't know why you would come to a poem that is obviously from the perspective of women and try to say that they're claiming they're the only ones that are targeted.

XxStonedKillerxX do you want female poets to write about men's struggles? Seriously people, come on. Like pls go write a poem about the subject you said, I'm sure it'll be interesting. I'd love to read it.

+KamekoBruns I do believe it is actually referencing what's been dubbed the 'pink tax', essentially same products that are marketed differently for men and women (ie razors) have a drastic price difference usually the women's version being more expensive, and the only difference being the colour and the scent. For example, where I live you can buy a '5+2' pack of Bic mens 1 blade razors in the pound shop (so 7 razors for £1), whereas, in the same shop, you can only get a 3 or 4 pack of Bic women's 1 blade razors.... Very basic example, but you get the gist 👍

I like it, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to look good. I mean, I don't do it for other people. I do it for me.
@TheYasmineFlower10 жыл бұрын
Yeah well, but you don't need make-up and stuff to look good. Aside from that, the answer to the question of what determines good looks has to be answered by every indivudual... individually. But honestly, styling oneself just for oneself is the best reason to style oneself.
@eloisefvg92410 жыл бұрын
I see that, but you have to wonder WHY you (only) find yourself pretty in the mirror with make-up on. Because thoughout your entire life, other people have told you what "pretty" is. And therefore, even if you style up when you're home alone, you do it because of everybody else.
@LiliZulasOfficial10 жыл бұрын
I find myself pretty without it. It's an art form. it shouldn't be bashed in my opinion
@TheYasmineFlower10 жыл бұрын
Eloise FvG Not simply. I have heard people liking make-up because of the changes it makes - and "change" does not automatically imply a judgement, now does it? ;)
@DariusAbend10 жыл бұрын
Eloise FvG If you honestly think that then I feel really bad for you. Make-up is art, not pleasing other people. Maybe you're the one who's working to hard for society.

Every single one of us has been deeply socialized to assign value to women based on those things women in bras and make-up speaking against that socialization and companies that make billions of dollars responsible for continuing to deepening these doesn't make them hypocrites anymore than those of us who are floored by the points they make and wildly cheering in agreement. I am still a addicted to, and a fan of many cosmetic products, and I would get fired if I stopped wearing a bra to my public school teaching job, while at the same time I also have a love-hate relationship with them too. I hate that want others to think I look young and pretty but I do and that doesn't mean I'm not a feminist.
@LikeDemDreads10 жыл бұрын
Ronda Gupton-Pruett I see what you're saying about how sometimes it is unavoidable and I understand feeling conflicted about wearing makeup, but it IS hypocritical to say that bras and makeup are horrible but to still wear them. If you're going to get in front of a crowd and tell them what is wrong with society, I think you should lead by example and practice what you preach.
@Zoe-fd8ll5 жыл бұрын
But would you listen if they weren’t wearing them?
