I really struggle to understand people that click on videos of an artist and then decide to leave shitty, demeaning comments. If you don't dig something/someone, simply click on something else and move on? Spouting your unsolicited negative opinion only reflects back on you.

I like some of her songs.... But it’s obvious that what JW saw in her, was some obsessive fan (some little girl, really) who he could mold into his image like a piece of clay. I don’t support any Jack White side-projects, or his subscription service, because although I love the White Stripes; I don’t like to watch him play Pygmalion with so-so talent and then just put his stamp on them so they all look and sound exactly the same. (They all sound like watered down versions of him.) There’s no reason why anyone else should care, because no one he backs has any pop or crossover appeal. The reason why is because his ego would never allow him to back anyone with more talent, or potential, than himself; so you’ll never see him back the next Katy Perry or whatever the Alt-Rock alternative is to her. And, although this sounds harsh, I think his record label merely exists to exhault himself, rather than new/fresh talent.
@daniellerogers13523 жыл бұрын
Interesting perspective, for sure. I adore his solo stuff, the White Stripes, and some of the Dead Weather, but I'm definitely picking up what you're putting down.
@dreamwithinadreamfilms3 жыл бұрын
@@daniellerogers1352 Thanks! I just think there’s a problem, when the most exciting thing about a “new fresh talent,” is who produced their record. 99% percent of what he produces has no merit outside of the fact that he produced it. That’s never sat well with me. [Edit: I think Olivia’s ok because I like surf-rock, but, in general, Jack’s label is pretty mediocre.]

Katy f*cking Perry? Total waste of space, idiots like you know f all about what is good music. Listen to some B52's then you can see what shi*e Katy Perry and the like really are.
@dreamwithinadreamfilms2 жыл бұрын
@@paulnicholson5059 It’s just an example. She’s an example of a popular female musician. Jack isn’t interested in discovering the next “big female act” he’s only interested in backing musicians that make him look good. (Many who he is also sleeping with.) That’s a dishonest, (and frankly disgustingly sleazy and nepotistic,) reason to own a record label. The couple of decent acts on TMR (Ruby Amanfu and Margo Price, I had to look them up) eventually outgrew him.
@paulnicholson50592 жыл бұрын
@@dreamwithinadreamfilms What makes you such an expert on music, language and popular culture eh? You listen to loads of music, more than my 50 years of listening to it. Katy Perry and all the 'pop' rubbish like her (there are many but from Lardy Gagger to Adelle as well as those you mention as TMR 'acts' above ) they are all just repeating the same moronic pop crap some of us have heard so many times before. Thank heavens for Jack White to save some of us from such drivel.

Cool in theory, obviously JW backs her up for a reason, hope she breaks out and explores a little more creatively✌️ there’s something in there hopefully cuz cool idea/aesthetic/sound
@paulnicholson50592 жыл бұрын
She has many self-released tracks. But it does back up JW's wish to promote new music. He seems to be not averse to using some great musicians (such as Olivia Jean) to enhance his own creations. What's not to like there?

I feel that as a solo artist she should not have other band members on the stage. Or with 3 other people standing around while she talks, she maybe shouldn't say "I, Me My, Myself, alone...".

Kind of cool. Jack White's girlfriend of many years. But why hide that? I don't get the game of revealing some partners and hiding others. And why do they put up with that? He goes everywhere with her socially, but they never hold hands. Yet he did hold hands with Renee Zellweger publicly. Which makes you think, is that only because she was famous? Or is it because she wasn't going to put up with all the "pretend things are different to the public" nonsense?

@@dreamwithinadreamfilms That's not a reason to keep someone a secret for 8 years. That is, unless his ex wife actually made that a part of their divorce settlement - that she had to remain a secret, especially as she was in Karen's band.

@@bingonamo7520 I can’t imagine Karen would do something like that, she seems very sweet. Most likely Jack and Olivia decided to keep their relationship a secret to avoid bad press.

@@paulnicholson5059 Lol, he just got engaged then married straight afterwards on stage, that's not a seeker of privacy. He just mixed it up with his music and merged his private life with an onstage performance. No one else does that. He just made his audience more than consumers of music, so it's an odd time to make that comment.

I hope she have a second plan because as a singer sucks... She is talented no doubt about that! But being an Intrumentalist doesn't necessarily make one a good musician. I think the perfect fit is as a STUDIO MUSICIAN
