I always liked Karen & Richard, The Carpenter's music, and when I was much younger I was playing their music loud and my neighbor at the time called me on the phone and she said her husband hear loud music from my place and when she found out I was playing The Carpenter's album she said Turn It Up! It breaks my heart to think of everything we did not even really know we had when we lost Karen. Olivia has lived her life full of dignity, grace, courage and talent which are all showcased when she plays tribute to her friend singing a song that so poignantly represents the unique purity and richness that Karen brought to us for such a painfully fleeting moment. Karen made this song her own in a way nobody will ever be able to challenge. Olivia is simply honoring the memory of her friend in a way few others are able. If every gifted singer in the world were to join voices in perfect harmony to sing Karen's songs back to her it would still fall short of the original, but that is not what tribute is all about. I have no doubt that Olivia brought a few smiles to Karen in life, and I like to think such tribute from her friend would bring her at least one more smile if she were able. I also believe this mix is a sincere tribute and not presented to draw comparisons but to simply appreciate it in the spirit it is offered. This is a good place to spread positive energy.

They must know nothing about her to say anything less than love and adoration for her best friend, ONJ, or "Livvy", as she loved to call her. Anyone downing Livvy is doing a disservice to Karen's memory. Shame on them. Olivia was an honorary pallbearer at Karen's funeral. Please don't blame Karen for such ridiculous ppl. They probably have just whizzed in to see a video of Karen or something, and then claim they are a fan of hers when in actuality they have no actual clue about her. Sad. I saw the Carpenters in Concert in 1972. I was hitch -hiking thru Vegas and saw their Midnite show at the Riviera. Cost $8.50 cents. The thing at the time that blew me away about them was her singing and drumming- it was effortless.When she fronted the band she was very uncomfortable. Behind the drums she would light up and smile. Watch the sequence from the Boudokan concert in 1974 when she sings Help. The best sequence of songs .The magical cover of Burt Bachrach songs.Go to you tube ,Carpenters Burt Bachrach and you will see a great black and white sequence of this medley- I still watch it

I have had a total Crush on Olivia since Grease came out when I was a teenager. I also grew up with my Mom playing Carpenter's Albums. Karen is possibly the Best Singer of the 20th century! Her dying by starving herself will always haunt me. But lets not short change Olivia! She is also one of the Greatest! She has been a force since the 1960's. Ah yes ! I was hoping someone would upload a video of ONJ and Karen Carpenter together, they were great friends. And I can see why---two caring, giving, selfless souls finding in each other a precious friendship. Olivia being a soprano can't quite conquer the low notes in "Close to You", but this was a tribute to her great friend in concert. Hard to believe Karen's been gone since Feb. 1983, the world is cruel. Two precious singer-artists delighting the angels on high with their gifted voices.

Let's be happy that we had Karen for a short time. She was beautiful inside and out and I'm really happy that she was a part of my life while growing up.
