This was the number one song of the 80s. Ten weeks at number one.

With "Physical", Olivia Newton-John shows how her "good girl hot" is far more intriguing than "bad girl easy". It was the next step for her after 1978's "A Little More Love". Watch her live 1982 performances of both songs in Ogden, Utah, during her "Physical" national tour. The concert is posted on YT by "Victor Coral" and has 18 of her hits, each impeccably done. Search for it and see just how great a singer/performer ON-J really was, and still is! A star, born for the stage.

I remember when “Things Can Only Get Better” came out and my dad’s employee mentioned it about a week before he had a heart attack. He survived and was OK, but I never say the phrase “things can only get better”. Lol

Somehow I ended up with a cassette of Olivia's Greatest Hits Vol. 2, probably from my parents' collection. My eight-year-old self used to walk around with a portable tape player blasting this album thinking I was the coolest. Lol

She owned the world. Make a Move on Me is another all-timer as well as Magic and A Little More Love. This video is pretty intense when you get right down to it ... and pay attention to the lyrics. She was a cheeky little chicky.

This song was quite controversial in 1981! From Wikipedia: "The song was censored and even banned by some radio stations as a result of its sexually suggestive content, such as the line "There's nothing left to talk about, unless it's horizontally". Also, the line "Let me hear your body talk" caused some radio stations to ban the song."

This and "Make A Move On Me" (which I actually like better) are both a little risque.

This song was written by Steve Kipner. I think he orignally hoped Tina Turner would record it. But Olivia did and it was a monster hit.

Yes... Great song!. From her movie Xanadu, there is the title song "Xanadu" and also "Magic". She plays a muse. One of the daughters of the Greek God Zeus.

I love that you are reacting to the audio and not the video. Too many reactors get hung up on the video and don't really focus on the song itself. I listened to the song and didn't really watch the video all that much back in the day. Olivia started getting edgier and sexier in her music after Grease. Her album Totally Hot (right after Grease) had great songs like A Little More Love and Deeper Than The Night. "Physical" really doesn't showcase her vocal talent but it was a HUGE hit. Thanks again for featuring ONJ.🧡👏

When I was growing up my friends all was ga-ga over Olivia Newton-John. With this song I think she was told to go more commercial and go disco.

Steve Lukather guitarist/singer from the band Toto, plays guitar on this song, like he did on many 80's song, a great guitar player.

I think in Lukather's book he says he wrote the guitar solo on the spot. He did that a lot during his session work.

This song was played at every cardio class in the 1980's... Yes, Olivia Newton-John was trying to shake up her "Good Girl" image. People were very surprised. The official video is pretty funny, MTV played the Hell out of it.

Great song! It was pre Flashdance, Jennifer Beales as the star of the movie and Irene Cara singing that groovy tune! The video to Physical is pretty humorous and would probably be condidered controversial today which is another irony! Later people!

You think this is racy, daring, and erotic-tinged?... Give a listen to, "Stranger's Touch" (from the PHYSICAL album), "Toughen Up", "Soul Kiss", "Culture Shock", and "Moth To A Flame", from her 1985 album, SOUL KISS. The whole album was almost a thematic depiction of her Sandy #1/Sandy #2 personalities from GREASE...some of her best vocals are on that album, when she was about to turn 37 years old. Nice reaction, BTW....always nice to see someone react to the '80s classics.

I didnt like how they tried to turn her into the sex kitten in the 80s even though it was a huge hit. Her career kinda slowed with the new image.
@havensmm93082 жыл бұрын
Actually, her career had slowed with her old image. Her new image actually rejuvenated her career. Other than her TV specials. She didn’t have significant chart success in 1976 and 1977 until Grease in 1978. Her image change happened right after Grease and it was Olivia’s choice to go in that direction with her album “Totally Hot”. And it was ver successful as was the soundtrack to “Xanadu”.😊
