Olivia Newton John singing Love Song Opening scene from her first ABC TV Special in 1976

Here is Olivia opening her first USA ABC TV Show "A Special Olivia Newton John" . This scene starts out as a blank white screen, but watch Olivia appear before your eyes while singing Love Song. This was aired in Nov 1976 and I recorded it on my new Sony Betamax. I have protected the tape like it was precious ever since. Now having transfered it to a Hard Disk with lots of backups it should be safe. Come enjoy the opening scene and all the other ONJ clips from the show.

Lesley Duncan's gorgeous composition, which was also recorded by Elton John and Duncan as a duet in 1970 on Elton's Tumbleweed Connection album. Always loved Olivia's version as well, which I think she recorded right around the same time.

Beautiful!!I also played this video a lot 20 years ago,and so nice to see it here on YT.Olivia is my favourite singer though all times,no one above her!!!It is so true,she worked SO hard for her fame!I wish she keeps singing yet another decade,and also producing new albums.The world needs a TRUE talent like this!!!

I love the way they did this hazy look for the song. It has an angelic, floating, ethereal quality that fits. The high notes remind me of what Mariah Carey did years later. This is the first time I've seen a performance where Olivia used high notes so much.

This VERY beautiful song had originally been composed and sung by the British singer and songwriter Lesley Duncan, who later so INCREDIBLY excelled in the Alan Parson song "If i could change Your mind" ! To my taste, the above Olivia interpretation of the "Love song" is superior than Lesley's original version. On the other hand, i can not at all imagine that ANYONE could EVER sing "If i could change Your mind" with this IMMENSE melodramatic power, as Lesley did. Maybe every singer has his*her personal spectrum of songs he*she can perform with the, for the corresponding song, highest imaginable impact ?! For me, Olivia's most "hitting the soft spot in it's very Center song", still is "Please, Mr., please !" !!!! !!!!

Great!! Thanks a lot for posting this video. Actually I watched this special program in Fukuoka Japan when I was at the age of 14. At that time I had no video recorder, therefore, I recorded only the sound of this music and I listened to this repeatedely. You had already Japanese Sony beta video in 1976. Thanks again.

I had a Betamax too. When Beta and VHS were first out Betamax was the better of the two. I also remember another format that was huge tapes, just don't know what it was.
