i think it means she kinda helped him break her own heart. it makes a lot of sense with some of the other things she says in this song and on the album. and it could also mean like she went along with him and all his bad ideas and they made so much trouble, so both their hands were red... but in the end, after all that he still left her and her heart was broken. cause in the song she also sings about how she knew was going down but she thought she was doing it with him and he would go down too so it was okay. but actually he didn’t go down, his heart didn’t get broke. so like they both committed crimes but she was the only one who had consequences and repercussions, she was the only one who “got caught” sheesh that line is so packed and genius. so many different meanings.

At this point, I am convinced her songs aren’t about “that” guy anymore. I think she is just so talented, that she is able to get creative inspiration from others around her. I am convinced she is super happy with her personal life, and doesn’t have to be going through something terrible at the moment for her to be able to channel so much emotion in her performances.
