I found out one of Olivia’s parents is a therapist. So once you really pay attention to what’s she saying in “Brutal” and how she’s saying it, you realize that she’s singing/speaking from the perspective of being on a therapy session and the chorus is probably the mental breakdown. That really makes sense for it to be the opening track because it sets the tone and really storyline for the rest of the album. That’s really genius, actually

I really think Brutal should have been the last song on the album because it pretty much sums up everything. The album should have begun with Traitor, a heart-wrenching break up ballad, all the way up to hope ur ok where she wishes everyone well, before erupting into the aggressive song that Brutal is, being sick of everything she has experienced and therefore written about in the previous tracks. "I hate every song I write."

If you listen close enough in Deja Vu, she says "I bet you even tell her how you love her in between the chorus and the verse" and then she does that exact thing. It's hard to hear, but there is a faint "i love you".

For me the rock elements didn't work. Imo it just didn't suit her voice as well as the other slower songs. Brutal, Good 4 u, and Jealousy Jealousy just aren't my songs. Again my opinion! If u like the songs, great! Do u! Just wanted to put my opinion and I respect urs!

Initially I was quite confused about Brutal too. Because I didn't quite get the direction she was going, especially after having heard Driver's License and Deja Vu. But after a few more listens, it started to make sense. The chaotic nature of the instrumentals, and the murmuring verses and lyrics- it just perfectly embodies teen angst and what kinda goes through your mind at that age

I gotta be honest, I found myself not taking this album seriously simply because she’s 16-17 writing about love and all this “grown up” stuff. Like she doesn’t know how it really is. But once I pushed that stupidity out my brain, I was really able to appreciate this album. It’s beautiful

"God, it's brutal out here" is such an iconic line tho. I kinda love it :) The stripped back songs are all gorgeous and feel so raw, but I do really like all her uptempo ones as well. The bridge in Good 4 U is one of my favourite things on the album. It's *chef's kiss.
