Seeing what kind of things woodworkers put on their lathes and spin up, it's a bloody miracle that craft hasn't died out yet.

The third one has to be my favourite. Not only is it a gorgeous model of spacetime curvature, it’s also a functional table while simultaneously allowing for demonstrations of how orbits are affected by the curvature.

Agreed. Not only is it a stunning work of art, it also demonstrates a physical principle in the coolest way possible AND it's a functional coffee table!

It sounds like you're referring to an object that beautifully blends aesthetics with functionality-likely a table or model illustrating spacetime curvature, perhaps a visual or physical representation inspired by general relativity. It's fascinating how such models can serve as both a piece of art and a tool for demonstrating complex scientific concepts like orbits in curved spacetime. This makes it an engaging and educational choice!

I like the first one. The way the lines go down into the hole is intriguing. But of course, to work as a functional table, it'd have to have a glass top like table #3. All three are stunningly beautiful!

That's a really cool piece! I think I like the 3rd one best, functionality and fun all in one. While watching the solid glue-up, I wondered if it might have been a little easier with concentric rings glued together, but might not have had the same stretching effect the closer you got to the well. Always entertaining to see the amazing work you do. Thanks for sharing this with us.
