Does it ever get uncomfortable continuously looking over your right shoulder on jobs like that? Is it possible to work with the seat swivelled to face out to the side? Just wondering. Thanks.

I normally push so I can spread material as I go but I find I have to keep adjusting the steering wheel to stay parallel / follow ditch. if not spreading or can be done after with front bucket I find it easier to pull as you are doing.

Yes, I was doing a bit of steering as I went. Worked well actually, especially as this ditch was not in any way straight!

If there was a preexisting ditch line already there, why not use a hand trimmer to cut down the weeds? Does your front loader bucket have the clamp jaw feature or whatever it is called on it? If so then you could have just opened the claw up and reshaped the ditch line with the loader bucket, which I'm guessing is 3 times wider range than your arm wide bucket.

I do have the 4in1 bucket on the front yes, but with the bank being my side of the ditch, and the ground being quite soft, I didn't want to make a mess driving across it forwards and backwards which using the front bucket would require. What I really need is a wider ditching bucket!

Thanks for the feedback, always trying to improve things where I can. When I set the camera up my head wasn't in the way - but obviously when I was working I was trying to look exactly where the camera was! Lesson learned!

In 40 years of running backhoes I’ve never seen anyone pull them selves backwards or indeed done it myself.just saying

Do you think there's a better way Nick? I'm honestly still very much learning with this machine, and there are very few people showing how to get the best out of a backhoe so its tricky to know what's the best way.

@@Olliegunns I’ve allways started at lowest point and worked upstream pushing machine to move it.far easier than pulling yourself but if it works for you good luck.allways a job to stay parallel to ditch too compared to a 360.we never stop learning do we
