Excellent tutorial! Easy to follow, light-hearted but not frivolous. I just finished doing the break-in service on my new Hunter 350, and it was a good time to do the clutch freeplay as well. Thanks!

nice vid champ , just brought a 350 meteor , love it but the clutch engages so far out , max distance from the grip , dealership told me that's where its supposed to engage but its so tiring reaching all the time , glad i saw your vid , ill give it a go , I'm sure it will be better for me like that , thanks again for the easy to understand vid big fella

Excellent video! I found it interesting that RE measures the freeplay at the end of the lever. Most bikes I’ve had measure the gap near the pivot point, but the Meteor has cleverly covered that area. I like how they are still coming up with new ideas for ancient technology.

The adjuster on the clutch lever side got very tight or stuck, how to loose it? I am unable to do any movement.

Good morning Jeff, Excellent vid here and the previous TCLOCS one as well. I'd like to add something to cable maintenance on the RE's if I may. Thoroughly lube the clutch and throttle cable(s). I didn't the first year on the throttle cables for the INT 650 and they rusted terribly during winter storage. Luckily I was at home when the push cable snapped requiring replacements from Hitchcock's. First thing I did on the Meteor was soak the cables.

With a new bike or an old bike with new clutches there will be wear in the first 1000 miles. After that, they don't seem to wear near as fast. Same way with the valve lash adjustment. The first 1000 miles the valves will seat themselves in and after that they won't need adjusted very often. This is not a Royal Enfield thing, this is just mechanics of any machine.

At this rate you'll need to divide your garage up. One side Harley and the other Royal Enfield 😂 such a horrible problem to have. Oh, I like the the Enfield's have center stands. I didn't notice it on this one before. I hated that most bikes don't have them anymore. Anyway, happy weekend to you and 6:49 ☺️

Always enjoy your videos.just dropped my meteor off yesterday for initial 350 mile service in columbus.you like classic bikes you should check this place out.2stroke kaw tripple,beezers,bonnies,old ujm’s and a sturgis for sale.like going to a museum that sells enfields.would be great if you could talk mid ohio into lending you an intercepter with s&s pipes.they sound sweet.

I know checking the clutch cable free play is a maintenance item but I've never had a bike the required adjustment more often the every 3000 - 5000 miles. Do RE's really require adjustment every 500 miles?
@mattyb77363 жыл бұрын
Only the first few times. My himmi stretched a lot in the first 800 miles, hasn't moved since.
@seankearney69153 жыл бұрын
Other than initial stretch I wouldn't be surprised if its just that there is more clutch use and wear in Indian traffic. They possibly do need it that frequent in the home market, but we don't.
@OlManRonin3 жыл бұрын
the manual says to check clutch free play every 600 miles or 1000 km

Hey Ronin! The little rubber bit at the lever end of my cable ripped. (Little rubber nipple right before the actual cable part) Is this an issue? The cable moves a little more inside the adjustment nut, but I'm not sure if its a problem.
@OlManRonin2 жыл бұрын
just make sure you clean and lube it extra now to keep dust and dirt from making it sticky

And why would we need to do this allot? I have 2000km on my Meteor and have not checked it yet. I will now. Just wondering why that free play would change at all so quick?
@OlManRonin3 жыл бұрын
According to Royal Enfield Meteor 350 owners manual? It is suggested to check your free play every 1000km or 600 miles, I wanted to show my audience the proper way to adjust it if its out of adjustment. If you haven't checked it, its wise you should. There is a periodical maintenance chart in your Owners Manual. Also, doing a TCLOCS before trips similar to what professional truck drivers do each and every day ... well they are supposed to. lol As far as it coming out of adjustment, mine didn't, I just gave it play in order to make the video.

You're missing the bigger issue. You have been overworking your clutch and have stretched the cable. You're supposed to stay in top gear and cruise, not cogg swap all the time hehe. Sorry, just had to wind you up. As always a very useful video for maintenance . I wish the himmi had a fine adjustment at the bar end.
