This vise for the price is pretty nice, and does have an adjustable beam dovetail to keep it tight. Indeed the moving body, the stationary upper and the beam are forged, the lower base and swivel ring are cast. It is well made and aligned properly and includes pipe jaws. These vises are probably the best bang for the dollar in big vises.
This unit is not perfect and I get into that towards the end of the video.

All said and done, I think that's a really nice vise especially when higher quality ones can get into the $1,000 range. Olsa Tools could not have sent the tool to a better youtuber. Thanks for the detail review! Cheers!

Seems like you've been getting more and more sponsored tool reviews lately, congrats! Hope it continues. This vice is certainly adequate for basic shop tasks. I was wondering, is it possible to easily disassemble the vice and add a spring washer onto the screw? That would make an interesting video, especially if it improves the backlash issue. Good job.

For people that don't need such a large jaw opening, I really recommend you save some money and get yourself the Doyle 6" Vise from Harbor Freight. Its actually a 6.5" jaw width (no idea why they advertise it as 6"), and the jaws open to about 7". I like that its a sealed vise, so of you're grinding work on it the dust doesn't gum up with the grease in the internals around the screw. It has 9,900lb's of clamping force, its cast out of 60,000psi Ductile Iron. It has a really strong swivel base, that it swivels really smoothly on, and I really like the clamping method they use for the vise/base, instead of the usual bar that runs across and ends up being bent, it instead uses two large individual clamps on either side for the screws to clamp to the swivel base. The jaws are nice and parallel, and it has a nice set of replaceable pipe jaws too. There's also a very large anvil area for you to beat on. Nice thing is it's not disqualified from the usual 20-25% coupons...I just used my 25% this Labor day to get it, ended up paying $172 pre tax (its normally $229). Unless you have some very specific vise requirements, I think this is one of the best general purpose vises for the money right now. Especially for your DIY needs.

That is a sweet tool! I bought a 6" last year, the box looked just like yours. As long as the vice is ok, the packaging did it's job. That is a great price for a vice that size. You could easily add the spring washers.

Sounds like a decent tool for a good price! I'd rather have a vintage USA made vise, but if none can be found, this is a great option!

If you are looking for an American Made (spokane, Wa) vise, Fireballtool is taking preorders ($1500) for their 250lb cast iron 6" x 14" vise now, $100 to reserve one.

I have the 5 inch version of this vise that replaced a 6" Wilton 746 mechanic vise. Despite being roughly half the size, the new vise holds tighter and survived the task that broke the Wilton without a hint of trouble. Fit and finish is also FAR superior.

Nice vise. I've got a few but not very good one's I will say I've got a 30+ Year old crapsman it's been ok so far but don't really beat on it but the best one I had was a old black Smith vise it had a pole that went to the ground but 40+ years ago it was on the scrap pile and sold it to some art students in Maine showhegan school of art wonder what they did with it? Have fun with your new vise.

I've watched this vid a couple of times by now. I like this forged vise and your vise stand. What's the best height for a vise stand? $375.00 seems like a great deal. (I have a 15-year-old 5" Bessey, and sometimes it's just not big enough.) What's your opinion of a spinning front jaws? Great review, as usual, Ty.

No matter how strong the vise is the weak part is always going to be the swivel base, id get a fixed vise personally. You should check out Fireball Tool's new vise he's about to start selling

Depends on what you're using it for...are you whooping the shit out of it?... or using it as a tool to hold things that you're cutting and grinding on?... holding large things doesn't take alot of force...🤔

Facom product details state contradicting specs . For 350 bucks it not bad but that handle sure is 4" too short and that course acme thread going limit achievable clamping load . For sure needs a spring take the slop out the handle unthreading . The flat plate on underside of swivel base is a poor effort, 2 small contact points against the cast iron are transferring all the force and impacts and soon results in swivel casting cracked, bolt tangs pretty flimsy too . Seen this issue on 4 cast steel taiwan vises with same design cast iron swivel base . The other downside is the jaws depth is not as great as a 6 or 8" old vise . Would of liked seen them bolted from the outside . Personally I buy all my vises as old ones US or British in cast steel or pearlitic high tensile iron, 150 to 400 bucks can buy some real nice proper made old vises . For new vise this is not the worst and pretty fair price as likely get another 10% off that price.

I don’t understand why a 4” vise is like $170, and 6” vise is like $350. Who’s calculating this math? 🤷🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️
@DKNguyen3.1415
@DKNguyen3.1415 Жыл бұрын
What do you mean? The 6" literally weighs twice as much as the 4". That's in the specifications and the specs say that because the entire vise is scaled up in three dimensions, not just the jaw width. Jaw width is scaled up 1.25x between the 4" and 6", and if you do the same scaling for all three dimensions you get 1.25^3 = 2.25. That's where the twice the mass and twice the price is coming from. What math are you using? Just 6"/4"? That'd be a 4" vise where everything just the jaw width has been stretched and everything else is the same size. Very goofy looking.
