Olympian Fred Kerley arrested in Florida after altercation with police

Sprinter Fred Kerley was hit with a stun gun and arrested after an incident with police in Miami Beach, Florida. Bodycam video captured some of the altercation. NBC’s Marissa Parra explains what charges Kerley is facing.

I want to see the incident in full. What happened before he was tackled. Specifically, what is the audio before he was tackled? There had to be some reason why he engaged with police. Watch again. The cop got in his space & he threw his arm up to keep the cop from going hands on. He was defending himself. To the cops he was just a suspicious man of color and therefore needed to be manhandled and pushed so his self defensive could be called assaulting a police officer. Now that they know who he is, charges from this encounter will be quickly dropped. Cop doesn't want the scrutiny of pushing a celebrity around.

Three things: 1. He sprinted himself to jail 2. Always has to be some screaming woman in the background 3. The officers take down and control tactics were subpar, at best. You can play the tactical look with tailored shirts and tattoos but if you don't know how to go hands on, all of that extra fluff is just bluff. Control the legs and the man is going to be in handcuffs quickly. Never, ever, ever just let off someone and give up control so you can tase them when you already have them on the ground. Jiu-Jitsu training would do all of these cops a positive thing for themselves and it would have prevented so much of an audience. Things should have been over much sooner. Sincerely and with love, a fellow cop.

“rule of law.” The rule of law means that everyone must obey the law and no one is above the law. Simple is that.

Well, not quite... There are many exceptions where some can violate the law and where they mustn’t get to pay the juridical consequences according to what the law dictates. A famous one is the SCOTUS recent ruling. But there are other ones. So it depends on what you mean with “everyone must obey the law”. Yes, that is correct. But the law also says that some are above the law. So that part of your argument is incorrect, and the law allows certain people to de facto violate some or all other laws. Further the legal system in the US is really quite different than the rest of the world. While most nations settle most legal disputes in juridical courts adhering to the laws may by lawmakers, US lawmakers don’t engage as much in lawmaking and its the unelected judges who in most cases are de facto lawmakers. And since SCOTUS doesn’t even come close to settle all the cases it really should, law is unequal and interpreted different by different judges. Aslo a substantial part of cases that, according to me, ought to be settled in criminal courts, are settled as lawsuits in civil courts and hence many such cases leads to unequal consequences.😊
