Proud of this pure talent and tenacity of Privalova's. 50, 60, 100, 200, 400h, all her results are still viable even now. No doping questions, as her career longevity proved. And clearly the best white female sprinter in history. Bravo and thanks.

+zakales I will agree with that; "Priva" was fast she was very very explosive out of the blocks. 'Clearly the best white female sprinter in history'. I am inclined to agree. Lookout however for Double Dutch...Dutch Dafne LOL. That woman will give our black female sprinters real pressure. Like that woman drinking milk from a different cow. LOL.

I loved Privalova, but even though she was loaded, Koch was the best sprinter ever. Blue, black, green, white or red, there's only one Marita.

One of the most underrated sprinters. All her bests are below the benchmarks: 100 under :11, 200 under :22, 400 under :50...and also ran a :13.56 in the 110 high hurdles.

I've been a a fan of Irina for a long time. NOBODY could start as fast as her. But her problem was she would always get run down in the last 30 meters by the likes of Aaron, Torrence, Devers, and Ottey. Always felt she was more suited to the 400, so when she switched to the 400 hurdles I was very happy for her to win the gold after coming up short so many times.

She was always part of thrilling sprint races with Ottey, Devers and Torrence usually came up just short. I was an Ottey fan but was delighted to see Irina have her big moment in this event.

Her running style suits her for hurdles and the longer distance. Her legs go up high on each stride hitting a 90 degree angle. Fastest white female sprinter ever. Glad she finally got her due a gold medal!

Privalova switched to hurdling after constant injury problems and was racing again thanks to surgeons who gave her new Achilles tendon which was grafted on to her leg from a dead Russian soldier

I predicted the win, as a Jamaica I was mocked but, I said she ran 10. 7 for 100, 21.7 for 200, 49 for 400 flat it would be hard for anyone to beat her

Privalova, one of my all time favourite athletes. I’m a huge fan and maybe she was clean in this race but I’d surprised if she had been clean back in her short sprint days. Most (likely all) of the top sprinters (white, black and everything in between) were using, maybe still.
@timothykang10704 жыл бұрын
Looks like Irina could've beaten 52.9 if she didn't let up at the very end. Great race. Deserved that gold. Feel bad for the other top women who probably had no idea irina was going to upset them all.

The present record (2021) in this event is 52.16. She was less than a second slower than this in her fifth start. Had she pursued this event earlier and longer she might have gone low 51 seconds.

I do not want to start slinging mud because I like what I've seen publically about Privalova. She had always been a brilliant starter who would fade at about the 70m Mark over a 100m race. Now she's running World Class times over 400m and 400 metre hurdles. I know previously that she was a speed skater but if she has the endurance over 400m why could she never finish her 100m sprints? Being the World record holder over 60m, it's not as though she lacks cadence
@paulouk834 жыл бұрын
In 1993 privalova ran a 49.8 she was often in the 4x400 team and world indoor 400 champion in 1995 so can't really take this point
@richmac843810 жыл бұрын
yep, Irina would have owned the WR in this event had she concentrated on it 5 yrs earlier. It also would have been interesting if Marita Koch had done the 400 hurdles also. 47.60 in a flat 400m race... just imagine the time she could have run 400 hurdles in
@PePinmySteP10 жыл бұрын
Well you can have a tiny idea with Marie José Perec who tried during the 1995 season with the worst technique ever!! She still managed to run 53"21
@dudea7297 жыл бұрын
What was so bad about her technique? Are there any videos of her running the 400m hurdles?

I read somewhere she never trained with the other Russians and had problems with the Russian federation. Personally I think she was one of these athletes that was a freak of nature as she was class at 50, 60, 100, 200, 400, 400h and decent at the long jump, high jump, sprint hurdles and even speed skating.
