A person can be put in jail for publicly declaring an anti-war position in Russia. Also this person may be called a "foreign agent" and then forced to leave the country. The absence of anti-war statements is not only about people saving their career, but also about life safety. Trust me, it is really dark and scary times for Russia. And most of russians do not support war.

Most russians actually do support "special military operation". And that is exactly why it is happening. Making victims out of them and ignoring reality won't make the situation any better. Dark times require decisive actions, 'couse it will only be getting worse.

Why the argument is even on whether sports are apolitical. Killing, bombing, damaging the life of millions is not politics. It's violation of basic human rights. It needs to be stopped as soon as possible. IOC's decision is doing the opposite. I don't mind to see Russian tennis players compete at tournaments as long as they haven't openly supported the war, as they've always primarily represented themselves. But for Olympics athletes have always competed representing their country. Though I don't like it, it's the fact and reality. You can't just say well during war time, athletes from this particular country temporarily don't represent their country. Seems like the IOC expect us all to act like the townsfolk in The Emperor's New Clothes.

4:10 it is really hard to blame some athletes who were at this rally… because there had been rumors and interviews that most athletes were forced to actually be there. For example, the two girls in the red coats are famous rhythmic gymnasts, Arina and Dina Averina. They are twin sisters who do rhythmic gymnastics. However, when posting their photos on telegram (and purposely didn’t post it on Instagram) they blurred out their “Z”. If they were fully in support of the war, they would have never blurred it out, but they did. Which most likely hints they were forced to go. (Plus their head coach is besties with Putin so that might tell you smth)

Stop with that bs, russians do activelly support this war and want to do it, they were rised with this kind of mindset, any eastern europeans could tell you that. Fun fact. In Russia when you start competing, you are not allowed to take political sides etc publicly. I’m not sure whether it’s true across all the sports but smth tells me it is. It’s in this like athlete ethical rule book (?), next to don’t use doping, don’t get into fights, be nice etc etc. I received this thing when I was competing in surfing however I know quite a lot of surfers who posted sone anti-war things and none were penalised :) but it’s a small sport (in Russia) that everyone ignores. Hypocritically though this rule is obviously ignored when you are pro-government 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think it might be cool if Russians are allowed to compete under neutral flag and if they show no war support. At least then the athletes won’t be used for propaganda
@Dunika

You are not allowed to take political sides as an athlete the same way you are not allowed to take political sides as a soldier/military worker. You work for the state, you follow their orders, whoever happens to be in power at the moment. You represent the state, thats why you are not allowed to have a public "political opinion". While I wonder if he will remain under the Police's team, I think it relevant to notice the he is a civilian. In Italy, the Poliza (police) is a civilian police force. Carabinieri is the military corp. So he is kind of paid by the Italian Government, but he is not in the army. Interviewer: You have a patch with the Italian police logo. Is this your sponsor? Daniel Grassl: Yes, this is our sponsor. They support us while we skate. And then, in the future, we can be policemen. Interviwer: Do you want to work in the police? Daniel Grassl: Let’s see what the future has for me. Even Grassl himself stressed that the state police is the sponsor. And it makes me both sad and angry that part of my county police budget, even if very small, is going towards Russia. It is not a lot of money, but the concept itself bothers me.

The passport shouldn't prevent an athlete from going to the Olympics, but as far as I know the spots are defined by country! Each country getting a number of slots in each sport. Many stories athletes change countries to have more chances internationally (champion Gubanova for example, I think she was Russian and changed to Georgia, under which she went to Beijing Olympics). The medals are certainly counted by country. I already felt like the ROC flag was ridiculous. Their athletes accounted as Russian all the same. Oh, btw, Tutberidze coaches didn't show up at n the kiss and cry with Morisi either, while the red-haired woman (Nicola Della Monica, as I read in another comment) was there with all the Italians.

I never liked the idea of athletes competing under any national flags in general. That being said, banning the athletes for what their government does will likely further the idea that their interest is tied to their nationality. So i'm not sure banning Russian athletes from competing even under neutral flag is the best anti-Russia move.

i love you and your channel but girl... that part about daniel was just too much for me and kinda toxic. as for me, making fun of his opinion and calling him a fanboy was a bit disrespectful. he is worried about his career and tries to find the best way to develop it. some people can find this decision not good but i think we definitely shouldn't shame him for it. it's 2023, hello? we may not like eteri, but i don't see what daniel did wrong? -- caring and taking responsobility for his own life and career as an adult person? he said that he went through hard time last year, seems like he had something like depression. i think that now, when he says that he feels better and motivated enough, we should send him some support and not bully him. i see that you don't like eteri (im also not a big fan of her). but it seems like it starts affecting innocent people. pls don't forget that you are an influencer and don't turn into some one like eteri, who doesn't care about mental health and respect. i hope daniel won't ever see this video.

I think they should introduce neutral flag at Olympics. 3 spots for each sport. Any athlete around the world may participate under the neutral flag. So everyone who wants to go to Olympics, might compete for those spots Surely it will cost a lot to make all of the competitions happen. But committees really did put themselves in this with their own hands unlike athletes from Belarus and Russia who are dragged by both politics of their countries and out of their countries

This war has never been separated from sports. The Russian army has made it impossible for many Ukrainian athletes to train in their home country and thus have been forced to flee. Additionally, both coaches and athletes have been killed in this war. So Putin has made this war (or politics) about sport. Therefore, banning Russian athletes because of the war isn't unfairly mixing sports and politics, since they are already mixed. In an ideal world, sports and politics would be separated, but to think that is the state of the world today is delusional. Sports are used to favour nationalism and to show that your country is strong, especially when it comes to countries led by dictators.

I wonder if a generic team of athletes from different countries could be created; for instance, athletes from Kuwait, Russia, Belarus, and maybe athletes who escaped from countries like North Korea but do not yet have another passport or that do not wish to go with another flag. I know it great when the North Korea and South Korea teams marched together under the same flag, but I hope what I am saying makes sense (South Korea recognises refugees from North Korea as their own citizens, so my example does not make sense after all, but whatever. There was a refugee team, so maybe a wider actually neutral team could be created. If the Russian athletes remain under the same flag, I do not get how it is not the Russian team... It would also be interesting to notice the reaction of the Russian Government if they played without being recognized as from Russian or Russian. I feel like 99% of the team would be Russian, so maybe it would not change much. I would be okay with excluding Russian athletes from the Olympic Games, but I understand that there would be some hypocrisy to be addressed. Of course my hearth breaks for the Ukraine athletes, that would probably feel betrayed. What a mess.
