One point about Kuroo helping the Karasuno boys: yes he does want them to be at the top of their game so they can have a good match, but it's not just that. Because they are in different prefectures, the only way they'll be able to play each other in an official match is if both teams make it to nationals. To make the garbage dump battle a reality, they need both teams to be good enough to reach nationals and then stay in the tournament until they can face each other. Not a simple task with all the skilled players and teams we've seen out there!
@MasterPpv2 жыл бұрын
I love that even at the slightest hint of Kageyama subconsciously going back to what they were doing before, Hinata immediately catches on and gets mad at him for it. Even if that set was done to "help" Hinata and the intention was pure, Hinata knows that Kageyama is learning a new thing right now and is more than willing to fail over and over again while he waits for Kageyama to get it right. It just shows how much faith he has in Kageyama that he completely trusts that he'll get it to work eventually, and doesn't want him to compromise for his sake even for a moment.
@TrianaNero2 жыл бұрын
They're talking about the temperature literally - summer heat and humidity in Japan are no joke, they're very serious about heatstroke prevention measures. Really loved your "ah" at Ukai realizing that Kageyama was trying to help Hinata spike - it's nice that coaches/athletes tend to get this point pretty well :") We usually see Kageyama motivating Hinata, but this is one of the great (and more obvious) examples of how it really goes both ways. Also, Kuroo noticing that Hinata's upset about the match getting cut short and kind of reassuring him that they'll continue tomorrow is something original from the anime, and it's one of my favorite additions. Kuroo really has a soft spot for Karasuno's MBs~ Joking about it as it might be, it's kind of adorable how he admits to wanting to make the coach's wish a reality but then trying to wave it off. So many great dynamics in Haikyuu. The "beating one's opponents at their best" thing reminded me of Yuzuru Hanyu - he also said that he wants to do the very same thing. True competitor's mindset!

It really doesn’t get that hot in Japan. 90 Fahrenheit/32 C would be unusually hot. Normally about 85/29 C is the high, which is nothing extraordinary at all. Many places get far, far hotter.

That's the amazing thing about Haikyuu. I don't really think there's been conflict that didn't have both sides having some form of validity through logic or human emotion. There are no stupidily forced arguments -- no conflict for the sake of drama. It's so refreshing to watch human emotions and ambition play out. And as always Sarah's reviews are super engaging!
@SnailHatan2 жыл бұрын
Huh? Oikawa almost beat up Kageyama and constantly puts him down for no valid reason at all. Emotional overreaction is not valid.
@DemonFoxLuver2 жыл бұрын
@@SnailHatan Please read my comment again. "... both sides have some form of validity through logic or human emotion." In other words, their actions makes internal sense for their characters and how the series presents them. You are correct! Oikawa's actions are not good! Oikawa is quite insecure and having what we see (ie. Being ambitious, his age, the peak of his mental instability, etc.), he took it out on Kageyama. Similar to how Tsuki makes fun of Hinata because of what happened with his older brother; looking outwards not inwards. Is it mature? No! I never said such a thing. Validity in this context does NOT refer to moral or correct choices, but merely that the actions presented makes sense WHY they happen given the context.
@SnailHatan2 жыл бұрын
@@DemonFoxLuver You don’t get to change the meaning of words just because you want to use them. Validity refers to sound logic and facts. Emotions are not logical. It is not logical to attack Kageyama just because you are emotionally insecure. That isn’t how logic works.
@DemonFoxLuver2 жыл бұрын
@@SnailHatan But yeah that's the point. It's obviously not logical to attack Kageyama when one is sound of mind. But the thread of logic is there in that scene. Oikawa is at his breaking point and therefore tried attacking him. Understanding that isn't excusing his behaviour. In other words, the writing is logical. I'm not saying emotional instability is an excuse for attacking someone nor am I saying that's what people generally do (although some do). When you're at the edge of the cliff you do rash things. I think there are misunderstandings here and honestly I don't there's a point in clarifying further cause I'm agreeing with you and I'm not sure how to explain it better

While it's true that Nekoma would want to play Karasuno when both teams are at their best, but what Kuroo meant is that is the actual Battle of the Garbage Dump itself. He said "so you guys have to keep winning", which means Karasuno has to beat the other teams in the Miyagi prefecture to make it to Spring Nationals so that they could play each other in an official match. Since they are from different prefectures, the only time they can play each other in an official match is at a National Tournament, like Summer Interhigh or Spring Nationals.

Great reactions, I love how you are as invested in the story as you are in the volleyball being presented in the show. Soon after the camp is when talk about tournaments will start again and it might get confusing, so I think it might be helpful to summarize it now, since the show goes over it kind of quickly and it definitely confused me a bit the first time I watched it: - There are two big tournaments in the show, they are referred to as the Inter-high and the spring tournament. Both of those are national level tournaments with representative teams playing from every prefecture - The Miyagi prefecture in which Karasuno plays gets one representative only. For the inter-high that was Shiratorizawa, who qualified by beating Aoba Johsai in the last round of the qualifier. Although not shown in the show, Shiratorizawa got knocked out before the quarter finals of the inter-high by an unknown team (aka we never learn the name of the team). Fukurodani made it to the quarters and was beaten there by an unknown team - For the spring tournament there are two qualification brackets, lower seeded teams like Karasuno have to play through the first bracket, to qualify into the second and the winner of the second bracket will be the representative of the Miyagi prefecture. Teams like Shiratorizawa and Aoba Johsai are automatically seeded into the second bracket. - After the qualifiers conclude there is a bit of an off season before the spring tournament starts in January, during this time is when training camps are usually held - At the national tournament about 50 teams play, with some prefectures only having one representative, while others have multiple. Lastly I have a question for you, but it is related to something that happens way later in the story (the anime has not reached this point yet and likely won't for a few more years), if you want to completely avoid spoilers then I understand: SPOILER WARNING---- After highschool, Hinata chooses to practice beach volleyball in Brazil for two years, with the aim of improving his balance, awareness of the court and ability to track the ball, since beach volleyball is a 2 person game, instead of a 6 person game, so each person is responsible for much more. As someone who played professionally in both sports, have you noticed a difference between indoor players and beach players when it comes to balance and awareness? Have you noticed it in yourself after making the transition?

Great reaction/insights once again. Usually, I give my personal opinions about the iffy subs while showing my support, but this ep didn't have any major problems (unlike some other eps). If I were to be picky, the "What?!" at 9:05 surprised me a bit. 「何で?!」is more like "But why?!". Hinata is merely asking for the reason behind not practicing together, but "What?!" makes it sound like he's more offended than a simple "Why?!".
