Yet he's not "a 100m guy"
@stevie586Ай бұрын
@@khumokwezimashapa2245folks need to understand the simple concept that the U20 and the adult Pro level is a completely different game. Many folks who run 100/200 in grade school end up running the 400M in College and Pros. Look at Shericka Jackson…she’s a perfect example. Folks didn’t even know she use to run the shorter distances when younger because she was nowhere near the level of the pros in that event, but now she’s made her way down to them again. Look at Matt Boling…200M champion and sometimes 100M also, but he’s not a factor in either of those events, and hardly one in the 400M. I could go on and on…this is how it works, folks…him not being a 100M guy means he doesn’t specialize in it and may not be the best in the pro level…he’s basically doing what Shericka Jackson did right now.

Matthew got absolutely taken advantage of by his college program.. its so sad. They didn’t improve his 100m speed at all, he got slower while he was there. I hope its not too late for him and someone helps him reach his real potential.
@jaidamann8365Ай бұрын
Not sure he was taken advantage of... Matt never ran a time under 10 seconds that wasn't wind-aided. Some athletes peak early. But, it doesn't seem like he's giving-up. He started with the 100m without much success, then went to the 200m (too many young successful runner there), now he's running 400m.

As Amazing as Boling was in HS in 100m, the guy ran a sub-45 in a relay when he was training as 100/200m sprinter not a 400m sprinter. UGA didn’t recognize his ceiling in the 100/200 and ignored his talent in 400m and LJ. If I was his coach in college I would have told him great 100m runners are a dime a dozen. You can run in the 4x100 or medley relays but you have to train and run 400m or focus entirely on LJ.

Knighton needs to start dipping his toe into the 100m more often than he has the last 2yrs (a couple 300/400s a yr wouldn't hurt as well). Boling needs to remain primarily in the 400m & should reconsider the LJ given how weak it's been in the US for a few yrs now if he ever wants to make an individual US WC/OLY Team.

I think he definately needs to hit the 400 circuit. That's why Tebogo advanced faster. That 400 makes you stronger. If he survives being suspension I believe some things will change in how he competes

In many cases I think the very best young athletes should follow their dreams and go pro because careers are short. Track and field however is not the best sport for that IMO. So many that went pro after high school are struggling to compete at a pro level consistently by 21. I cant imagine what that can do to a young person's psyche. T&F doesn't pay anywhere near what the best athletes at their age can get in other sports with teams (baseball, soccer) and in academies (tennis, golf), nor do they get the same support. The best T&F colleges nurture talent, offer a free education, uniforms, free gear/shoes, access to the best training facilities, trainers and some of the best track coaches in the world who often also train the best pros. They're able to mature as athletes and people in an environment with a team/support system around them, learn how to travel and meet important people while building their brand and reputations. I'm honestly worried for Christian Miller. I don't want him to become a has-been by 20 if things don't work out right away.

Yes, nicely said. More of these prodigies who immediately go pro end up fizzling than succeeding. 2-4 years of collegiate track is more beneficial for most of them

It is true that many 5 star level recruits struggle to improve their performances without truly elite level coaching, and full time dedication to the sport. But most 4 star level recruits on down will almost inevitably improve if they take the sport seriously at the next level. How much they improve still comes down to quality of coaching and their dedication.
