I want to point out that the screenshot shown at 7:06 from that one website is incredibly inaccurate and he doesn't know what he is talking about... The 17-year-old record is 23 seconds faster and is the 4th fastest of all time: 8:03.49 by Conseslus KIPRUTO born in 08 DEC 1994 and achieved in 20 JUL 2012. The 16-year-old record is 14 seconds faster and is the 4th fastest of all time: 8:12.28 by Getnet WALE born in 16 JUL 2000 and achieved in 11 JUN 2017. Jakob Isnt-brigtsen ain't actually that good at steeplechase. The top are dominated by Africans. This brings me to my extra fun fact: Did you know that recently, no one in the top 80 fastest marathon runners are born outside Africa! Who the 81st? 81st is 2:04:51 by Daniel DO NASCIMENTO! (at least till recently + says in his wiki page where I got the below information) And on July 4, 2024, Daniel Nascimento tested positive for three banned substances Drostanolone, Methenolone, and Nandrolone. All drugs are from the S1 anabolic steroid class, precursors of testosterone, which can result in up to four years of suspension. The suspension disqualified Nascimento from running the 2024 Summer Olympics marathon in Paris.

Hindsight is cheap, now that he "failed" his first attempt at the half, but you strongly underestimate the half marathon record imo. Guys like Barega, Kejelcha and Gebrhiwet might have run 57s, but they've been running 10ks at championships for years which sets them up perfectly for elite half-marathons. Not the case for Jakob, a 1500/5k guy. Jakob hasn't yet proven world class level at anything above the track 5k (european cross country domination the closest). Doing that (10k track/roads, global cross country championship) will be a necessary stepping stone. Kiplimo is a 7:26 & 26:30 guy on the track despite relatively limited speed & seems ideally built for the distance, the HM-record ain't too shabby in its own right.

@@John-lr4hp He had a very 1500 m focused season that started off with injury and lots of races recently, went out quite hard and got the norwegian 10 km record as a split. If he does a better base training period with more volume he'd be in shape to do around 58 mins in the half marathon next spring, according to what sweden's best half marathon runner said about it the other day. And then, as you said, some specific training would probably be needed to get down to 56 and wr level but that's probably doable for him because he's quite a hardcore guy.

WR's for the 1500m and the Mile are VERY possible for him. However, WR's for anything over 10,000m are doubtful (whether on the track or on the road.) He is the best MIDDLE-distance runner we've seen in 25+ years, but he is not a true LONG-distance runner. He's not a Steeplechase guy, either.
@frankjohansen93642 ай бұрын
You are totally wrong,all his training is for the longer distances,in reality he has never done specifix training for the 1500 m,it's a family thing,both his older running brothers,Henrik and Filip is also European Champions on the 1500 m,so Jacob has run it since he was 12 years old,and he love to run the distance.His older brother Henrik has said in interviews,that he think that neither the 1500m nor the 5 k is Jacob's best distance,but maybe the 10 k.Jacob himself has just said in a interview that he think that the half maraton distance is where his greatest natural talent is,if he meant it,I don't know,because I don't think he has ever competed at half maraton,and he was a great steeplechase runner up to when he was 16,with his debut the 4 th of july in Poland in a race for seniors,he tried to qualify for a Junior Championship where he had to run at 9,15 and he ran the distance at 8,26,81,a Norwegian Junior and U-23 record,and a European Junior record and within the time he had to run for qualifying for the World Championsship for senios in that year,and still the 7th best result by Norwegian runners,and I think he hasn't run it after 2017,he run it 4 times,but he had run the 1500 m steeplechase earlier years.but I think he knows how to run that distance as well,and when we see his time at 3000m flat,I think he can take the record with minimal training at that distance.I think,if he would had tried to run it today with a little bit of spesial training with the hurdles,I think he could had run it at a time at 7,47-7,50,and set a new world record.

"Not a long distance runner" winning the 5k championship three times in a row while barely racing the distance.

@@frankjohansen9364 yeah, he's done loads of threshold work. He's essentially a 5k/10k guy choosing to run the 1500m.
@thedolenorway2 ай бұрын
@frankjohansen9364 not only has he not raced a half marathon, I'm not sure he has ever ran a half marathon distance. When he was interviewed for the "I det lange løp" podcast he had never ran past 20K because that was what was in his programming. I think most runners wouldn't have the discipline to not tack on another 1.1K and make it a half. Jakob is not most runners though.

I believe the record in any Olympic sport of holding the same amount of World Records is by Michael Phelps for about 1 month he held 8 world records at the same time. Back in 2009

Yes, but swimming is kinda cheating there as it has a shitton of races. In running, you have 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5km, 10km and marathon, so 8 different races. I probably forgot something, but it's certainly not that much more. In swimming, you have - 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly - 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 200 backstroke, - 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, - 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 1500m freestyle, - 200m IM, 400m IM That's 17 races and I didn't even count the long distance stuff (5k, 10k) 8 world records in swimming is probably not much better than 4 in running.

It would go against everything i know about for example; muscle type fibers etc. Would be so stupid to beat a world record from sprint distances to a marathon. Everyone knows the jack of all traits or master of one.

@MakeThisPlaceIgnite2 ай бұрын
what if during the 1500 he just keeps running and breaks the mile too?
@Meechooilka2 ай бұрын
noooooooo. He should run a marathon and then he will break all of the other WRs on his way to the marathon WR. This will definitely include 100m as well because, you know, he is just that talented. And if there are puddles of water on the marathon course, he will also get the steeple WR. Jakob is AMAZING! He can do anything.

shats ur thought about his 63 half ?
@boomshankah11232 ай бұрын
I'd say the 3k to 5k is his sweet spot. He does not quite have the top end speed at the shorter distances to kick off a high pace. And he seems a little too muscular for the longer distances, but this can be modified with training and diet.
@bwingonwoger33542 ай бұрын
I agree with you. Reckon he could do 12.26 for 5k. Just run even 60’s and then kick on last lap.

The marathon WR is impossible at his height and weight. He's built for middle distance.
