It’s difficult for me to find information online, so I am going to ask here. What would be an average speed a single sculler could go? If the person is in shape but no high level athlete. On average how long does it take to pass 1 kilometer on a scull?
@Santi-hh1tp3 жыл бұрын
On average I would say it takes about 3:50 or 4min to do 1000m (if you only do 1km and push hard) As for the speed, we measure that in time/500m(known as pace) I think an olimpic athlete could go about 1:30min/500m, maybe faster, but only for a very short time (that would be 20km/h)
@nikolasirovica32503 жыл бұрын
@@Santi-hh1tp Nice! Thank you. I'm actually trying to guage for long-distance trips. I'm in Belgrade and there's a large river here called the Danube. I want to try to learn to scull, then scull to a small via the river that's about 24 kilometers away. I'm wondering how long it would take me. Buy bike it's about an hour.
@Santi-hh1tp3 жыл бұрын
@@nikolasirovica3250 In that case, I would say about 2hrs. But I should say that the sculls are competition boats, and are designed to go as fast as possible, but are very unstable. If you want to start rowing long distances maybe try normal rowing boats (I think in English it's called sweep rowing) Sculls are also quite expensive, so I would recommend joining a rowing club.
@nikolasirovica32503 жыл бұрын
@@Santi-hh1tp Thanks! Yeah I guess ideally i'd like to find something that goes fast and long-distance, but maybe that doesn't exist. I'm new to rowing, generally i cycle. A row boat would be great, but they seem to go super slow and then it's not as exciting :D
@Santi-hh1tp3 жыл бұрын
@@nikolasirovica3250 Yeah I totally understand! Though rowing boats aren't as slow as they seem, specially fiber ones. If what you want is to row as exercise, a rowing boat is still a very good choice. But if you can afford a scull, its most definitely worth it. If the river is not too wavy you could use a scull with no problem. (They are usually used in lakes or closed canals with still water). I hope I've been helpful. Good luck!

Both had a time of 6:41.34 which is a tie. So why did Drysdale win the gold and Martin 2nd place?
@no-gracias98633 жыл бұрын
In 8:42 the Croatian actually gets to the line first this was a corrupt win
@matthewhackett17103 жыл бұрын
@@no-gracias9863 It was not corrupt. It was "strictly" in accordance with the regulations, because it is who cuts the line first, and by the thickness of a fingernail, they detected that Drysdale had "won", by a photograph of that moment when both bows cut through the plane. Hugely magnified, hugely accurate. Your sentiment is correct though. In the last stroke, Martin's body (85% of the all-up mass of boat/sculls and athlete) was about 30cm ahead of Drysdale, but his boat was at a different part of the stroke cycle, the stroke's finish, where it is pushed back away from the race finish line. Had he just fixed his position at the catch in that last stroke, ho would have been a clear Gold Medallist. Rowing applies the rules with a almost obscene level of rigidity. Any athlete would surely say "both get Golds" - it has happened in athletics sprint races, where there is "interpretation" of the relative merits of an apparent dead heat..
