For some reason, I remember glimpses of that opening ceremony. I was 8, and I truly feel like this was the start of my love for Japan. Such amazing memories my goodness.

This opening ceremony from the singing part when they were rising up the poles was so amazingly beautiful 😻.
The Olympics are one of the few occasions when the entire world comes together... so for that reason I really love the games. And it was the Nagano winter games that lit that fire in me.
for those who don't know, the organizers decided to choose the morning time for this ceremony due to the fact that the best time for connecting choirs around the world is close to noon in Japan. The most unusual thing about this is that it was high summer in Sydney and Cape Town and on the two cities those day was near 40oC degrees.
3:57- Half around the world is pre-setting up before the start of the performance 8:11- The starts of the ceremony with the Japanese tradition 16:47- Sumo wrestlers coming by and standing on stage and off 21:15- Emperor & empress (Japan) with the IOC president arrived 22:23- Sumo champ along with other sumo wrestlers were chanted out 24:26- Performers doing the dance as children came on stage (26:55) 29:10- Japanese singer Ryoko Moriyama singing (When Children rule the world) 36:35- Athletes arrived on the stadium on the east wing with sumo wrestlers and those children with the start of the tradition of Greece came out first with the final country, New Zealand came out (part one) 1:01:15- Athletes arrived on the west wing and this time, Norway all the way towards the host country (Japan) arrived last (part two) 1:18:56- President of NAOC talking following by IOC president (1:23:49) 1:28:03- Emperor of Japan announce the Olympic game open 1:29:24- Olympic flag arrive with the anthem song 1:34:02- Quick musical tune 1:35:39- The Olympic flame arrived, with the light of the Olympic cordon (1:41:05) 1:42:01- Olympic oath 1:43:23- Balloons of doves flying off on the sky 1:44:52- The start of the performance of dancing, singing, and orchestra playing of Symphony No. 9 Choral with those countries take part.

I really liked the Japanese tradition performance, because the kabuki yell at the end (from 0:13:00-0:13:04) is my favourite.

Good day, Thank you very much for this Olympic ceremony in Nagano 1998, I have been waiting for it for a long time and I hope that everyone who looks at it will like it. Also very Please for more entire competitions from these memorable Olympic Games in Nagano 1998. Thank you for your precious time Regards Dominik :)
It's great to discover recently that you have uploaded the full-length video of many of the Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Summer and Winter Games. These are documents that deserve to be watched by all sport lovers and culture lovers alike, too unfair not to have them available for viewing. Hopefully you will continue uploading other past Olympic Ceremonies and all future ceremonies as well. I had been hoping to see someday the full-length video of this Nagano 1998 Opening Ceremony, especially for its final part, the Ode to Joy live transmission, and also the 2 ceremonies of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, both quite dear to me. Thank you very much Olympics for sharing all of them!

I always love both of the parts: When Children Rule The World and Ode To Joy. Love from Texas USA 🇺🇸. I love Japan because I love the music the scenery and the colors. I always love to watch the opening ceremonies of summer and winter Olympic Games.
When Olympic Games really intended to mean humankind's union. 😭✨🇺🇳 Also, when the Japanese made from massive singing of Beethoven's 9th Symphony an Olympic sport. 😍🎼🏆🤣 I was 14 then, and all family was in grandmother's house. That was my first listening to Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Since then, the performance I ever had in my mindset is this. 😻😿🎶

At first, I looked at it with a smile on my nose because it was so plain that I didn't think I should go out of my way to do it at the Olympics. But I couldn't stop the video.I cried after watching it for a while.I don't know why.I couldn't stop crying and was crying alone.I realized that this was the opening ceremony of the Olympics that I wanted to see.I don't need celebrities or fireworks. Why did this happen when we could have a wonderful opening ceremony only in Japan? It's very sad.The opening ceremony of the Nagano Olympics is the best.
The entrance song of other countries is Soran-bushi, but this is a fisherman's song from the northern part of Japan. There is no sea in Nagano...... Entrance song of Japan is "Shinano no kuni" this is Nagano's prefectual anthem. Nagano Prefecture is made up of northern (Nagano. Zenkoji Temple is located there), central (Matsumoto. Matsumoto Castle is located there), the eastern part (which produced great military strategists in the modern era and served the Dowager Queen Toyotomi and her son young monarch), and the southern part (known for its tragic general and his beautiful and strong lover in medieval time) do not get along very well, but this song unites them!
its alot better to watch without our silly commentators stating facts and thinking we can not see whats going on with our own eyes

This is how my father describes it, before television, we listened to sports on the radio so they had to bring up every moment that went on, but then after television became a trend, it was becoming tradition.

Some people cannot see that well with their eyes and they also deserve accessibility to the content.
The Japanese are obsessed with it. They have made massive singings with thousands of people in a single choir. 😅

A beautiful but atypical Opening Ceremony. The portrayal of tradition was better than the song and dance numbers, IMO. Also the rendering of the Kimigayo was excellent.

29:10 I always love this one. 1:28:11 His majesty the emperor declares the 18th Olympic Winter Games in Nagano open. My one of my favorite parts. 1:34:15 I fall in love with the Japanese National Anthem every time I hear that beautiful sound.
Certainly, from the opening ceremony of the 1998 Nagano Olympics, the theme is for the sumo wrestlers (wrestlers), and the 64th yokozuna "Akebono" has been acting on the stage with a bale. Furthermore, I am glad that I moved to the Olympic teams with the wrestlers in charge of guidance at the entrance of the athletes with Their Majesties the Emperor Emeritus.🇯🇵
