It's so satisfying to watch Shawn's rock-solid acrobatics. I'm so happy she got a gold too. She said in an interview that she kept getting silvers (team, AA, floor), so she was prepared for another silver on this event (heartbreaking, right?), so it's extra awesome that she ended her Olympics with a gold (beam was the last day). She also wanted a gold as a way of thanking Chow as he returned to his country of origin. I personally think she's a teensy bit better gymnast than Nastia and could've won the AA, esp since she was also a FT high school student, training only 26hours/wk. Imagine if she trained 40h like Nastia!! She basically trained at 65% of that and still came in 2nd.

@shannondavidson6832 жыл бұрын
I love both Shawn and Nastia and i love that they're so close even more. But in my opinion, Shawn was very underscored at these Olympics while Nastia was over scored. It was quite clear that the judges here had preference to Nastia's body type and subsequent gymnastics style. Which was more of those times. The more robust and "stronger" looking gymnast was just starting to become "acceptable", if not appreciated.
@DeepSeas..2 жыл бұрын
Shawn also said that she physically couldn’t do 40hours each week in the gym because her body couldn’t take it. Shawn also had the advantage of youth on her side. By the time she was Nastia’s age, she could no longer be competitive because her body couldn’t hold up.

She said Marta told her & Nastia they weren't guaranteed a spot on the team after Olympic Trials (huh?). Looking at both routines (keep in mind I'm not an expert): Pavlova: 0.3 ish (not holding the Kolesnikova) + 0.1 or 0.2 (wobble in full L spin) + 0.1 (wobble on handstand skill) + 0.1 (wobble after sheep jump) + 0.3 (large step on landing) = 0.9 - 1.0 deductions Cheng: 0.1 (full L spin) + 0.5 or 0.6 (very off balance at full twist + flailing arms + step) + 0.2 or 0.3 (large balance check on back tuck) + 0.1 (step on dismount) = 0.9 - 1.1 deductions at least, maybe more if the judges at the time also deducted for long pauses & not maintaining the fluidity in the routine It's very close, but Cheng's routine should've incurred more deductions imo, so Anna deserved the bronze. But then again, I'm not sure how strict/lenient the judges back then were, so there might be more errors that I couldn't pick up
@maia90564 жыл бұрын
Boxer 2000 you know deductions aren’t just wobbles? Hesitations and form are also a big factor. 0.6 is very harsh for the full twist, remember the 08 code was very lenient because this was the first cycle with it.

Unpopular opinion: I kinda feel like Gabriela Dragoi deserved bronze. I know she had a lower start value but she was cleaner than Cheng and Pavlova.

That girl had NO ORIGINALITY!!!! She made finals because multiple people ahead of her were “2 per countried” and she had the Romanian emblem…

Shawns beam look more difficult and intricate compared to Simones beam routine.

She does have a lot of difficulty Shawn and Simone have similar gymnastic styles it’s just Simone’s dismount is very hard and she gets a lot of height but I’m a fan of both

Shawn excelled at beam and floor and had okay amanar and average bar exercise while biles is top class in all the events and is still going

Gabriela Dragoi received only a 9,125 for execution and Fei Cheng, clearly with more mistakes, received a 9,150. It's unfair

Alright.... I'm barely 15mins into this and I'm admitting it... Even though the announcers tend to get redundant and annoying as heck sometimes- this is kind of boring without Tim's obnoxious catch phrases and all the chatter lol

Tim and nastia’s commentary is what I look forward to when I watch gymnastics... it’s not the same without Tim say “gymnasts 101, fly high and stick the landing”
@nathanielhalls18934 жыл бұрын
Oh I agree 100%. It’s a bit boring without

Nathaniel Halls a lot of people hate them... I can’t watch a video without them... it is very boring without commentary
@lpoco00064 жыл бұрын
yes it's better with commentary but that doesn't mean we have to have Tim...there are better commentators who are less biased and less disrespectful and less "omg right there she took a breath just like Simone but Simone breathes better"

I liked how friendly Shawn and Chow and everyone was to them. Not only were they were nice to Valeri and Nastia (and vice versa) but it was the same with the other Chinese gymnast (probably due to Chow being Chinese)

The fact that Shanshan has a full 1.0 deduction for the fall and still scored 15.300 is quite impressive

I think, even as she was up there, Nastia knew this was Shawn Johnson's moment . That insane triple back flip ! Wow ! Nastia was gorgeous, & flawless, but the moment belonged to Shawn. Awesome ! Our 2 ladies made us so proud. ------------MJL, 77 y/o

God if you want a training tape or recruitment video for young girls then you've got to show Shawn then Nastia. Complete opposite in styles. Shawn, energy, power, precision and the tenacity. Then Nastia with her Grace, flexibility, fluidity, technicality, originality and you couldn't show anyone else yet cover all of the Beam possibilities.
