I don't know what you're seeing, but Phelps was ahead until the end. Every swimmer know the problem of butterfly: In butterfly swimming, even though a competitor is ahead by a head length, the lead is changed all the time with the tips of the hands, depending on who has just swung his arms forward. And Phelps had the problem that in his rhythm he had his arms in front of the wall too early, but he had no more space for an additional arm swing. He had to slide out towards the wall which slowed him down massively, while le Clos was able to fly perfectly to the wall with his last arm swing. Congratulations to LE clos, but it's not like you say that he would have passed him during the last 3 arm pulls. From the body Phelps was ahead until the end

***** A common theme in most of the Olympic videos is that the analysts are so one sided. They never give the other athletes a chance. Forgetting that all those who got to the Olympics are the best and have trained to get to where they are. Michael Phelps is a great athlete and his record speaks for itself, but that does not mean he will just be handed the winning medal. He needs to compete and show he is worthy of the tittle. At the next Olympics Chad will have to also compete against the other swimmers, Phelps included.

To all the haters of Chad Le Clos. He beat Michael. So??? That's the beauty of it. Its so boring to see a man wins all the time. Chad Le Clos I LOVE YOU!!!!!
@billyhuh62294 жыл бұрын
You’re a hater of Michael. Michael did make a mistake at the third turn, he said it in a interview, so considering that Michael is a big deal, and considering that it was chad le clos first Olympics, Michael should kind of get more attention, but I respect chad le clos as well
@RigoOXx4 жыл бұрын
@@billyhuh6229 why is he a hater? Yes, Phelps made a mistake, but Chad knew how to use it. He didn't breath in the last 2 strokes, wich is insanely hard after a 200 fly, but it made him go a little faster. Hadn't he gave that last bit of himself and he would have lost the race, even with Michael's mistake. Plus, it being his first olympics makes it even more impressive and he should get more attention for beating the greatest of all time in one of his best events.

This race was awesome no doubt ... so proud of le clos. But after this race he had a bad attitude towards Phelps, not cool.

I hate reading some of these comments because they are NON-SWIMMERS who don't know anything about swimming trying to say if he didn't something else he would of won...but in reality he did what he was supposed to...if he did what they said he would of lost even worse or have been disqualified

I hate reading those kind of comments too Lauren, but I also hate reading comments like yours - uneducated people - who can't understand that the phrase "would of" does not exist in English language and it's actually "would have". Not "would of".
@chung2F58 жыл бұрын
+Sota Sato My exact thoughts. "Would of" is one of the most ridiculous solecism I've ever seen. It's up there with the infamous "Your welcome" (instead of You're welcome), then/than & its/it's errors.

I am a competitive swimmer, and something that is truly interesting is that, every single one of those men, from lane 1 and lane 8, are truly wonderful. Rather than freaking out about the two literally most noticeable swimmers in the 200m event, I think those who swim can agree on this the split times in the long course pool are freaking insane. So don't talk about 1 or 2 people getting all the credit, because every singly one of those gents out there spends hours every day.

There is no such thing as a mistake in any race. You are either faster or you are not. If you cannot go faster than your competitor, you will not beat him. That's all there is to racing. None of this mistake and luck bullshit. These racers train to beat the other racers by fractions of seconds, that's how tight the competitions are. Le Clos gunned it from start to finish making him the better racer in the pool at that point. That's what he trained for: to beat Phelps within a fraction of a second. Grand success.

so your just going to ignore the fact that phelps was in front but mistimed the final touch on the wall which led to the competitor getting a long reach and touching the wall first. there is more to a race than being fast.
@meta42828 жыл бұрын
Edward Patton Missing the final touch is what sets the winner and the loser apart at this level in competitive racing. These athletes practice 6 hours a day in the pool to gain that 1 inch lead, because that's how tight the competition is. Le Clos executed the final touch perfectly and won as he understood that he would never beat Phelps by 5 meters, but by a matter of inches - the race only ends when you pass the finish line, not 1 inch before. Give credit where credit is due. You would say the same if Phelps had won.

Everyone complaining about the commentators not celebrating a fluke win. Phelps is the best and there's no debating that. Every dog has his day and although Phelps is the better swimmer, he didn't touch first this time. They had the rematch and Phelps proved Le Clos got lucky in London.

I can't even call this a mistake by Phelps. He was at a point where he had to make a judgement call of one more stroke, or go for it on that stroke. If he does one more stroke does he win? I don't think so. Not sure what he could have done in those final few meters to win this. To me this is more of a LeClos victory than it is a Phelps fail.
