Germany's Robert Harting wins gold in the men's discus throw event with a distance of 68.27M at the London 2012 Olympic Games (7 August).
Iran's Eshan Hadani won silver in the event with Estonia's Gerd Kanter winning bronze.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

At fourteen I was throwing well over 100 feet. And I was only 5ft 9. And I was self taught, we didn't have a discus coach. But if you really want to get better just practice, buy a discus to take home. I practiced at home. I made it to regionals in my freshman year.

When you yell you throw farther because you release the air in you. Like when you lift something heavy you grunt or breath out a little, try to do it without breathing or grunting and it'll be more difficult.

Try it. Once you do you will see how hard it is to throw, and much more so to throw over 200 feet. Robert harting, the man who took gold, has been throwing for 12 years. Some of the others even longer. It takes time and long struggles to get anywhere in discus.

MrStrujaa It's actually not so much to do with progression of genetics, it has a lot to do with the technologies and money put into the sport. ie the materials in shoes, running tracks, all other facilities, discus' ect. not to mention back then they had no idea what body type should be in what event. All the Athletes looked the same physically, from shot put to the 400m race. The average size of ~6ft - 75kgs was considered the "athletes body"

teach your daughter early to do discus, she'll likely get a college scholarship. Every college needs a female discus, shot-put, etc. thrower. And very few care to do it. She doesn't need to be the best. My son was ranked 26th in IL in shot-put as a junior in high school, and got a great scholarship. It was a D3 school that needed a good thrower, not a great one. Football linemen are a dime a dozen...and risk injury.

D3? why not D1
@micflor531313
@micflor531313 9 жыл бұрын
+AccessDenied55 It's all based on performance. My son threw 52 feet 3/4 inch in high school. This made him a good D3 recruit. To qualify for D2 he would need to throw at least 54 or 55 feet. And for D1 58 feet or more. So his best official distance got him recruitment letters from D3 programs. They are very careful; they pick XC guys by their times, etc. Track and Field are all about time and distance. He got into an excellent college with an outstanding 3 scholarships. SO he's happy.

@micflor531313
@micflor531313 9 жыл бұрын
+AccessDenied55 Put yourself on KZbin, under both your high school name and your name. If you have stats such as points scored, etc. Put that there too. It's free. Don't worry about D1. As far as education goes, the best universities are not D1. I advise high school students to just get the best scholarship deal they can at whatever college. My son got six recruitment letters: he went with the one that paid him the most for his college education. If you feel you are good enough for D1, it'll happen. Otherwise, try to think long term. A college degree should be the main goal. Try to balance all your goals at once. The degree should be first. My son went to a college without a throwing specialist, then after seeing him, they hired one. So if he would have rejected that college because they had no specialist coach, he would've lost out. If you plan to be in the NBA they will chase you, if you are that good. If it's a dream, consider it may not work out, and you'll lose out on a college education. Fortunately my son made the best decision for him overall.
