Ivan Ukhov (Russian Fed.) wins the gold medal in the men's high jump event in the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games (7 August).
Erik Kynard (USA) won the silver medal in the event and there was a three-way tie for bronze between Mutaz Essa Barshim (QAT), Derek Drouin (CAN) and Robert Grabarz (GBR).
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

Well, 7 years later, and it looks like Kynard will actually get this gold medal due to Ukhov's doping disqualification.

A dash on a score card means they passed that height, for example XX means they still have one attempt left at that height, but XX- means they missed twice at a height and decided to take their last attempt at a higher height, however because they had 2 misses at the previous height they will only get one attempt at the higher height, hope this helps

Quite impressive. With a declining population 2.5 times smaller than the US and 10 times that of China, Russians have been first or second through the Olympics with tough times and crises after the fall of the USSR. Recently they slipped to third, but if I compare it to my country Brazil with 195 million.I can say that Russians are a very strong nation. Counting the medals of ex-USSR 15 republics always puts them in first place in gold and medal count. And most athletes from ex-USSR are Russian.

If Ukhov's drug finding goes against him, he could potentially lose his gold medal and it could end up going to Kynard. Apparently the sample in question is from the 2012 Olympics. That would also promote Barshim and Drouin to silver. Time will tell.

I don't know, him and Bondarenko have dominanted this event in 2013-14, both having about the same PBs( Barshim 1cm higher, bit Bondarenko typically went for the WR after clearing 2.40, so it's hard to compare) but they both choked last year and haven't looked good this year. I think a new name will win it this year, winning height prediction: 2.36
@thethirdman225
@thethirdman225 8 жыл бұрын
Barshim has a better jump record but Bondarenko has a slightly better competition record. It will be good, especially if Drouin, Protsenko, Kynard etc. get their respective acts together. Current World number one Zhang can't be overlooked either.

Why do they get to share a medal when they have a tie? In a lot of other sports have a tie breaker and that's not fair. Either you have tie breakers for all the sports or none, that's it. It's not even fair that before in the sports that have them now didn't have them before. That's just cheating an athlete that has worked their whole life off to have the same score as someone else but not be awarded the same.
