It is there because of the impact it had in gymnastics. It was one of the first double back dismounts in a time when a double twist was the most difficult dismount executed of wooden solid beams with no spring.

Mukhina did it much better than Shaposhnikova. Zakharova, that same Olympic year 1980, had the best dismount in the Soviet team. Not to mention Emilia Eberle who did a double pike regularly in 1979 and 1980.

Please,, it’s there because of the impact it had in the progression of gymnastics. Many of the skills you see today were done 40 years ago in primitive equipment and with no springs or sufficient padding.

It may have been the first double back off beam? But I agree--in many instances this poster didn't choose the best examples of the dismounts featured, sometimes not even the best example from the same gymnast. Take Khorkina...she nailed her cartwheel gainer 2 1/2 twist all the time. Just not in the video shown.

Gymnastics 101: stuck landings. Only Carly Patterson and Yelena Produnova actually stuck their landings. The rest did not, and many had their chests down low. Chest high and absolutely no movement of the feet = stuck landings.

*This list was garbage and here's why:* #10 had flexed feet, pike down, and a hop #9 had leg separation on landing and a hope #8 had leg cross, slight under rotation, and a hop #7 had flexed feet, low chest on the landing, and a little step #6 had a horrible cowboy tuck, a super low chest, and a hop #5 had flexed feet, leg separation in flight and on landing, low chest, and a hop #4 had a significant step but wasn't too bad #3 had one of my favorite dismount combos but this performance had flexed feet, a low chest, and a little step #2 had a bit of a cowboy tuck and what could potentially be counted as an arm swing. This deserves to be on the list but not at #2 #1 had its little flaws but it should definitely be in the top 3 While none of these are really bad dismounts, there have probably been more better ones at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics alone. And so many great ones from even the same Olympics used in the videos were left out. Terrible.

NOT EVEN.... hops, jumps, shuffling feet, heels clicking together well after landing and no they didn't say "There's no place like home" 3 excellent dismounts...Nastia had a GREAT dismount in her All-Around win of 2008. Nadia had two perfect beam dismounts in 1976 (team and all-around) Moceanu stuck her dismounts in 1996, Dawes had a perfect beam dismount in the all-around in 1996, Just look at a few videos and you'll find athletes from nearly every country performing perfect dismounts at the Olympics, where their feet hit the mat and do not budge....
