This race really shows how important toughness and desire are at the end of a race. As the announcer said, Magnussenn looked like he had it won at about 80 meters. He had taken the lead and was known as a back-half swimmer. He even still had a noticeable, albeit very small, lead at about 90 meters, but Adrian just puts his head down like a madman the last 10 to 15 meters, while Magnussen breathes once or twice. That really was the difference. Magnussen had him beat but Adrian either wanted it more, was tougher, or both.

It wasn't even the first time in London that Maggie lost to Adrian. They both swam the first leg in the 4x100m freestyle and Adrian beat him there also. It should have been a wake up call for Maggie who should have studied the replay religiously in the days between races. Adrian would go on to swim a faster leg in the final 4x100 medley relay event also. And beat him again in World Champs a year later. Basically, Maggie is a choker.
@Hmkls9 жыл бұрын
Magnussen basically lost the race in the last 5 meters because that is when he: 1. Raised his head up to look for the wall but increased body resistance by doing so. 2. Pretty much stopped kicking. If he did only one of those things he would have still won. But he made two mistakes and it cost him gold.

This would require the camera to catch the exact frame in which the wall was touched. Seeing as there is a 1/100 second difference and most cameras will give you 24fps, the chances of that happening are 6 in 25. Not the best of odds. Both athletes were in full motion of course, so there's a tinnnnny amount of motion blur that the camera will have to keep in order for the picture to appear fluid and not choppy (viewers want fluidity not edginess). I'll just trust the touch pad :P
