Subtlety is often hard to explain and appreciate, especially with so many people used to wild entertainment and instant results. Dressage needs to be seen prime time, especially in the Olympics, so experts have a chance to explain it, promote the horses and riders and answer questions from the public. Let the conversations begin!

Whoever says it isn’t a sport is crazy. Have you seen how fit all riders are? I ride every day, several horses. If I stop riding for only 10 days, when I ride again I will wake up sore everywhere. The other day a trainer asked me to ride my KWPN. After 5 minutes he was panting and asked me to wait till he caught his breath before he gave me his impressions.

This is the first dressage I’ve ever watched. Is the difficulty in remaining composed throughout the performance and also queuing the horse with accurate signals for the deliberate parts of the routine?
@robbofwar572 жыл бұрын
Also in keeping the pace controlled?
@stellablu3332 жыл бұрын
Yes, in dressage aids (which are the gestures that communicate with the horse and are basically hands-reins, legs, body assets) should be as less visible as possible. The difficulty is in the training (it takes years to train the horse properly) and to not do mistakes. So you have to be very connected with your horse and VERY focused, both rider and horse. You have to be very composed while you're giving very complex signals to your horse. The horse shouldn't give any signal of distress, like swishing tail or pulling back the ears. If the horse spooks (which is not uncommon) or disobeys or doesn't understand the commands is of course a deduction in the final score.
@robbofwar572 жыл бұрын
@@stellablu333 thanks!
@SSN8625 ай бұрын
The difficulty goes beyond staying composed and merely cueing and training the horse. You have to remember the entire routine, every step, and the movement. Count it out, signal it to your horse, all in time. You have to be able to adjust for your horse in a split second. Not to mention, it does take a ton of physical strength to do it. You also have to remain calm as when you tense, your horse will tense. At this level of dressage, the rider literally controls every single hoof movement of the horse down to inches. If the rider were to make a wrong movement in the saddle it could easily signal a horse as well train as these to do a completely different movement. It is actually mentally challenging for the rider as well as physically exhausting to be able to ride out these movements.

@@angelaschmalzbauer I’m sorry but what on earth are you on about? A horse has it’s own mind just like any other animal they can’t perform at this level of they are unhappy with their job Animal welfare is a huge priority within the sport, there are so many rules and regulations all there for the sake of the horses, at this level all horses get vet checked multiple times to ensure that they are 100% fine, after every single ride they check to make sure that none of the equipment is used wrongfully or discomforting for the horses as well. Saw you commenting earlier about this being un natural and no it isn’t these horses are not only bred for this but all of these movements are something horses naturally do while excited especially the piaffe and passage. A horse that’s not willing to work won’t, dressage itself is the foundation to all riding and also great exercise to ensure that a horse is happy, healthy and building muscles. These animals are great athletes willing to work with their rider because they are a team that work together a mistreated horse cannot perform at this level at all, let alone they won’t work with their rider. Dressage take years and years of hard work, I’ve ridden for 14 years I’ve competed at a high level for years now and I can tell you one thing these horses are treated like actual royalty they mean the world to us and they are the best partners to work with within sport. You sitting here and commenting these things spread false information and discredit all of us equestrians who work hard for years and years, we get injured, we overwork ourselves psychically and mentally yet one of the first things you learn is that no matter what it’s never the horses fault. Yes there is abuse within every single discipline of this sport not only dressage but that’s such a small portion there is no reason for you to sit around and drag the whole sport and all the hard work of these teams through the dirt. All and all what you are saying is extremely uneducated and you come across as rather close minded.
