Back when gymnastics was about ARTISTRY! This was my favorite quad and era of gymnastics. So many greats in these Olympics! Sadly the sport gradually went downwards after these Olympics and now it’s just recognizable.
@saragrant9749 Жыл бұрын
It’s still about artistry, they are just allowed to be more athletic and innovative with the gymnastics aspect. There’s no need to churlishly disparage today’s athletes because you prefer to live in the archaic past.
@Cmc9958 ай бұрын
@@saragrant9749it’s far from about artistry and it’s not about bashing current athletes it’s bashing the current code of points that is focused on heavy athletics and not about artistry, actual artistry(this sport had ballet vibes originally) and not cheerleader arm and body movements in between counting tumbling passes and wolf turns

Sheremeta and Zelepoukina deserved higher scores. Nice rotation for them
@lampwick44272 жыл бұрын
Zelepoukina's score genuinely seems like it comes from an alt. universe where the judges were actually serious about artistry deductions in 1996, a time where they did not exist. I even watched the routine back a few times to see if she'd missed a value part (a pretty serious deduction) but no.

She got almost a 9.7 with a large step on the dismount. And as much as people rave about Ukrainian form and extension she has sloppy feet - numerous instances where they aren't pointed.

This was history being made. This was the first time the US had a real legitimate shot at the gold medal and in the media it had been bumped up as such. She may have wanted to make the beam final
@mmoran32 жыл бұрын
She had a fairly large mistake that cost her about 4 tenths of a point when she had to bend at the waist to keep from falling off. She also lost some tenths of a point with a few wobbles and large step on the dismount and it was the Olympic games🤷. So I'm sure she was hoping to do much better.

Would have loved seeing that full rotation like this
@bil21022 жыл бұрын
I see people complaining😭 that in those times there would have been more artistry and that today tumbling is all. That's just fake news! Look better again: those routines had even more tumbling than today. Each of all these gymnasts had quite an aggressive routine. The difference is that, in those times, the photographic form (or slow motion form) wouldn't matter as today. "Artistry" is just their egocentric claims...
@fernando_nunez01012 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. If gymnastics become more "artistic", people suddenly become to call for more tumbling and difficult... It's a never ending fight. And mostly of the routines before had the same range of elements than today, always adapted to the requirements of the quad. People should understand that!
