there is something about this particular competition and year that stands out and has something deeper that captivates the imagination. It was so competitive, the stakes seemed to be higher, the girls seemed to be tougher or had been through more rigorous training, maybe too strict of training. You can tell by looking at the russian's bodies. And there was a magic about the stadium. Even the name Atlanta makes you think of a place like Atlantis that some say might have been around greece where the original olympics took place.

Amazing video! The lack of commentary is greatly appreciated. Some random thoughts: - USA totally killed it. Hats off to the unsung heroes of the Magnificent Seven, Jacie Phelps and Amanda Borden who led off the team sacrificing personal success. Also, I find it criminal that Phelp's bars routine wasn't shown. Easily the 2n best UB set behind Amy Chow. - Ukraine had some amazing music selection for their FX. And of course, Lilia. ❤ - Russia, oh Russia... Beautiful headcases since 1994. - Reigning World Champions Romania was one-gymnast sort (Ana Maria Bican sustained a knee injury days before the competition) and still managed to bring home a bronze medal. Badasses! - I love how "spontaneously" miked Bela Karolyi was throughout the whole competition. Such a humble guy... - But most importantly: Simona Amanar QUALIFIED FIRST FOR THE UNEVEN BARS FINALS !!!

Well, watching this version, the crowd was silent. The only thing she would've been upset about is her landing after the first pass. That, and the Russians not getting gold for the first time since they were formerly a part of the Soviet Union (especially her with being on the Soviet Team until 1991 and the Unified team in 1992). This would've been the first time that these ex-Soviets didn't get a gold medal in the team competition in a fully attended Olympics since the Soviets entered the team competition. They had won gold on every team competition since their first entry up to 1992 (even though 1992 was technically the Unified Team) and 1984 (when the Soviet Union boycotted the Los Angeles games)

What drives me crazy is the fact that NBC’s commentary says that Strug’s vault happened during Galieva’s floor routine, causing the crowd to erupt so she couldn’t hear her music. Galieva was NOT on the floor when this occurred, it was Dina Kotchetkova who was on floor when this happened. NBC just wanted to create unnecessarily drama. Rosa Galieva was last on floor and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. This is why this channel has the better coverage. No commentators and you see what really happened

Still THE BEST team America ever!! That poor pink hair tied Russian gal was starved to abuse, so sad to see. It was so obvious the rest of the teams were angry at the US cheer leading. But every home team has the advantage that way... they should be used to it. I think it effected their performances. I think Kerri did so amazing in all her performances, the vault made her historical but she contributed in every way. The whole team was outstanding. I'll always remember Dawes as my favorite first AA gymnast. She brought the power!!

Not gym related but Keri has AMAZING bone structure. The jawline, the cheekbones, the nose. Super pretty even with that 90’s boy cut.

Really must have been tough on the other teams to hear the "U-S-A" chants all night. Not sure this honors the Olympic spirit- happy for the US girls, nonetheless, who deserved the gold.
@scottw93183 жыл бұрын
I wondered about that too. I haven't noticed it when other countries have hosted. I would think it would be horribly distracting.
@djm48543 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was also kinda tacky that the American crowd was cheering towards the end whenever the Russian girls would mess up. I was Team USA all the way, but still. It's a bit cruel to cheer at another's mistakes.

epitomizes the countries sheer disrespect. How do they play Tennis in the US?

@@djm4854 Home's gonna cheer for the home team. You see a lot of the same reactions anywhere. i.e. Sochi is another example.

Most gymnast will tell you that their routines are all they think about and you learn to drown out any noises like yelling or music playing. When I did gymnastics my mom called it selective deafness and I still have selective deafness 44 years later. 🤣😂🤣😂

One awesome thing about this coverage is it shows the scores from each of the judges. The Romanian judge was scoring the American girls quite low on beam.... She scored Borden's awesome beam routine at 9.6!

Favoritism or very picky?? Hmmm 🤔

The Romanian judge also scored each Romanian beam routine shown at least 0.10 higher than most of the other judges.

I know it was a home team advantage, but for the crowd to cheer SO LOUD, that the other teams had a difficult time performing on floor, i thought was very inconsiderate, especially since nary a hand was given to the other teams as compared to the USA, when they finished their routines. I'm proud of our Magnificent 7, but not so proud of the poor sportsmanship of the crowd. It was embarrassing!!

Gymnastics are usually hosted in venues that seat about 10,000 people. The US in Atlanta (as well as the 91 World Championships in Indianapolis) hosted the event in arenas that can seat over 25,000. That's why it was so much louder than other gymnastic venues. In fact, the Georgia Dome had the capacity to seat up to 71,000 people and was host to many American football games.
