I bought a Lumix G7 (similar price) 4 months ago and regret not knowing about the Olympus EM-1 mark ii then. I would kill for that stabilization and autofocus. Good review - very solid!

As a pro camera, E-M1 mark 2 isn't quite in the budget category, but you did a great job illustrating the features and characteristics of this camera.

Great video! It's very clear and helpful for us who don't own one. I've been a long time OMD shooter myself and I currently have the EM10 IV and the EM1 original. As much as I love these cameras the lack of flip out screen is a bummer and I reckon you've swayed me to pick up an EM1 II in the near future. Subbed and looking forward to more videos from you. Regards from Australia!

The EM1 mark II is a camera that has always intrigued me. I've never tried a M43 or Olympus so maybe one day I'll pull the trigger on one in the future.

The only reason I never replaced my em10 Mkii with this camera was the articulate screen . I don’t do video - just photos . If only they brought back a pro only camera for photographers - but that won’t happen : pity . I enjoyed your video and look forward to seeing more content from you quite soon . It is amazing that so many shy away from these cameras and in many ways the gear just keeps on giving . Finally , it is great to see somebody doing contemporary content on the brand . Fantastic !

Love my EM-1 Mkii. Bought it new and cant bring myself to upgrade. I shoot the Fuji X-T4 also but the EM-1 gets just as much shoot time.

Nice video! I have two of these cameras. Second hand, they are incredible value for money. The video is great IMHO, I shoot C4K at 24fps in natural, and do zero color grading. Fantastic video straight out of the camera. I made some tweaks that I learned from ‘Geeky Nerd Techy’. I always shoot in the daytime with low ISO so noise isn’t an issue. Of course, if you are doing professional work and have to get the best possible quality, then this isn’t the camera for you (though I still think it’s underrated for video), but if you’re a casual videographer, KZbinr, etc. on a budget. This is unbeatable value for money.

NIce video! I've had my EM-5 since day one, and even though I use it seldom now in favour of Fuji, I'm tempted to give m43 another go in the form of the EM1M2. I think perhaps you are selling it a bit short on the video capabilities. There's a niche of interest in it as a cinema camera as well. I really like Stephen Heise & Nigel Barros' channels. Seems like I remember mention of some big upgrades in the last firmware.... Subbed!

Great video !!! This is a stunning camera for photos. Probably just ok for video, but I really didn't buy the camera for video anyway. Be sure that you have the latest firmware to keep your camera up to date. I believe a new firmware update was released today. BTW, if you have not tried it you can set your camera to shoot raw and JPEG. I have mine set up to shoot both at the same time. MY JPEG setting is "LSF" (large super fine). If you have not already done so check you Rob Trek"s You Tube Tutorials for Olympus cameras. He goes thru all of the functions and settings etc.. Lastly, if you didn't know already, you can easily use this camera with vintage lenses. All you need is a cheap adapter (around 20 bucks) and a vintage lens. Vintage lenses can be pick up quite cheaply on E Bay and at thrift stores if you know what to look for. Obviously the vintage lens will not talk to the camera, so turn on focus peaking and magnify and use the camera manually to capture your shot, This is just another way to expand your horizons with the camera. Most of the vintage lenses I have picked up on E bay have been around 20 to 60 bucks and the results can be quite stunning. Hope all of this helps.

Hey William, I so glad you enjoyed the video! From what I could tell, the new firmware update is only worth installing if you have a very specific Olympus PRO lens… because it doesn’t bring anything new to the camera, no new features. I have a 3 vintage lenses that I use with my film Olympus camera, and what I quickly realised is that shooting wide open, the image quality suffers so so much. So you’re better off shooting in f4 or f5.6 rather than f1.4… If you like Rob Trek’s channel, you definitely have to check out Robin Wong’s, if you haven’t yet. There’s no better place on KZbin to learn about your Olympus cameras. Thank you so much for watching and for all your amazing tips! See you around :)

I enjoyed your video but was a bit surprised by it. The EM1-II is now several years old and so obtainable quite cheaply, but it is not what I would otherwise call a 'budget camera'. When released it was Olympus's top of the range Pro-level camera with capability and build to match.The EM10 would have been the 'budget' model. I notice you are using the 14-42 f/3.5-5.6 lens, nothing wrong with this lens; I have it and use it on my old EPL7 or EM10. But the kit lens for the EM1-Ii was the 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro which is superb lens that is vastly superior to the 14-42 f/35.-5.6. If buying on a budget it would perhaps be better to get a cheaper EM10 body and the better second-user 12-14 f/2.8 Pro lens

Good video. I own this camera (used from ebay). I'm amazed how advanced and capable it is considering that it was first released about 7 years ago. I replaced my Panasonic G85 with the OM1 because of the poor auto focus of the Panasonic. I have rarely had a blurry photo with the OM1 and I even think the video (4k) is under-rated.

@@tearitloosetearitloose4670 Very happy. The G85 had excellent video (probably a little better than the olympus), but I got tired of a lot of blurry photos and video. There are minor issues with the olympus (complicated menus, no light on on/off button, etc, but overall I prefer it over the Panasonic.

It sounds like you need a lot more experience with this camera in particular before making this kind of video. For instance, you need to try more evf adjustments because if set properly it is excellent. Same goes for your apparent tints. That’s not a massive criticism because everyone starts somewhere. I’m not an Olympus nut, having also Sony A7iii, various Panasonic and Leica models.

I have lumix G9 and a GH5s. I’m not that fussed about the High Res mode either, I don’t notice much improvement over RAW files 🤷 Also I have my C1, C2, C3-1, C3-2 & C3-3 options set up for Video and the camera remembers my photo settings under M but then the G9 is still Lumix’s Flagship Photo camera

I am sorry to say but most of your complaints about the camera have nothing to do with the camera itself but rather with your lack of knowledge... Btw. It sa an excellent camera for video if you know what you doing. Just as a site note: you have a really low quality lens which probably has a lot to do with your complaints. If you have limited budget spend less on a camera body and invest in good quality lenses, the results will surprise you... It appears that you still have a lot to learn 🤷‍♂️ You can't have expectations of a modern camera from a over 6 year old gear... Like I have mentioned it is an excellent camera for photography and video if you know how to use it correctly
@lorols
@lorols Жыл бұрын
Hi man! Thanks for your comment! Maybe it came out too strong, but I actually have very few complaints about the camera! The only thing that leaves a little bit to be desired (in my opinion) is the image quality in 1080p. And you’re right about the lens: it is very cheap and not it’s the best lens in the world, but that was all I could afford at the time! I have upgraded now (stay tuned for an upcoming video on that) and my opinion stands the same! The 1080p footage is not the best (again, in my opinion). This doesn’t mean, at all, that it isn’t perfectly usable! It’s just that there’s a biiig difference when compared to cinema 4K. And I actually think that the image that both formats offer are more than enough to compete with the modern cameras. It is an awesome camera, but it wasn’t made with video as a priority, as I mentioned a looot of times throughout the video. If you’re a hybrid shooter, it’s amazing - I clearly think so, I bought it! But if you want to be a filmmaker exclusively, there are better options, more suitable options, and I don’t think you’ll disagree with me on that… And of course I have a lot to learn, we all do! That’s what is so great about being a part of this community! We can all learn from each other :) thank you so much for watching!

@@lorols hey, thanks for the nice reply. I am on my photography learning journey probably quite a bit longer than you can walk, but I am far from "know it all" mindset. I appreciate your positive attitude and willingness to share your experience with others. When I have started my photo adventure there was no back LCD on the camera to check your results and each photo (good or bad) costed you money, so I have learned quickly to pick the right tool for the right job. In that note: buying a photo camera with video recording capabilities mainly for videography is simply not a wise choice. It is like buying GoPro mainly for photography, it can take photos (pretty decent ones, not great though) but is it a good photo camera? On the other hand a skilled photographer will most likely take better looking photos with GoPro than a beginner will do with a DSLR... It is all about skills but a right tool for the job makes so much easier.... Those are just my thoughts Sorry for my bad English, it's not my native tongue.

For picture profiles for video if you have Flat/Log available that it has been set to colour grade the video in post. You can turn this off by going to Menu, Video Menu, Specification Settings and switching Picture Mode to off Now the Flat/Log options will have disappeared and you should have all the colour profiles you have available in stills mode.
