That's an exceptionally tidy example of an early OM-1.

Sharp lenses, convenient shutter control, and overall a very solid performer. Love mine!

Nice walk down memory lane. Thank you! I had the same model back in the mid-70s when I was attending SFAI. It replaced my much larger Canon FTb. The OM-1 was my Art School camera, along with the 35mm and 24mm lenses. Mid-80s, I replaced it with the Leica M6. Excellent camera design and performance. Nice overview!

I have both the OM-1 and the Nikon FM, they are both great cameras. The OM-1 is my city camera, light weight and can slip it into a coat pocket. My FM is my going into the boonies camera, weighs a little more but is built tougher . They both can be picked up at such reasonable prices I got both. Nikon lens are more expensive, but then I discovered Adaptall 2 and Tamron lenses. Some of those lenses are very nice and I can use them on either camera.

I have the same camera systems as well, a black OM-1 (planning to buy an M-1) and a black and chrome (actually panda) FM3a. However both systems can go to the city and to the boondocks for me, it's just right now my Nikon F lens system is complete (as I started with the Nikon) so I am more flexible with the FM3a, but the OM-1 assures me that whatever I photograph, has been captured. They're my apples and oranges, or my potatoes (US pronunciation) and potatoes (UK pronunciation). Best cameras that anyone of any skill level can have.

I have two of these and love them. The only thing is that, for whatever reason, the film advance mechanism is....grittier?...that any of my Nikon SLRs. I've read this from other reviewers and friends who own OM-1 cameras report the same thing. It's a solid mechanism, just not as buttery smooth as my Nikons.

True. I see the OM system as the child of the Leica M and Nikon F camera systems.

Also, would you be able to make a video showing how you get rid of dust in the viewfinder and lens of the OM-1? I've seen that there is an issue with fabric covering the pentaprism that deteriorates, effecting the pentaprism.

Hi. very informative! I was wondering if you could consider doing a video on the Olympus 35RD and even how to clean the sticky shutter blades? thanks
@cameraprepper79382 жыл бұрын
The Olympus OM 1 are a good camera and I like the shutter ring by the Lens mount, beware that the two fastest shutter speeds 1/500 and 1/1000 often overexposure.
@nickfanzo2 жыл бұрын
are you using the correct battery?
@cameraprepper79382 жыл бұрын
@@nickfanzo HELLO !!! It is a mechanical Camera ! It has not an electronic shutter ! It is a general problem with the Olympus OM-1 Camera.

@@cameraprepper7938 i thought it got a lightmeter?
@cameraprepper7938 Жыл бұрын
@@max-lee It has got a lightmeter, but it is about the Cameras shutter which are not as fast as it should be, so that is why images can be overexposed. noob

Gorgeous camera. Had already invested my meagre funds in a Canonmatic at first and then an FTB so never got to enjoy one.

Nice video, thank. I have a question on the batteries. How would you cope with the obsolete 1.35 v. mercury battery?
@japanvintagecamera88694 жыл бұрын
There are 3 options, you can remove the bottom cover and solder in a diode between the battery and the light meter, you can get a battery adapter which converts a 1.5v LR44 battery to 1.3 volts, or you can use a Wein Cell battery.

Could you explain about the battery for the lighmeter?
@japanvintagecamera88692 жыл бұрын
The OM-1 normally uses a 1.3 volt mercury battery, which is no longer made. A 1.5 vot LR44 battery will fit without an adapter (If you put it in carefully), but at 1.5 volts the meter will b off by a couple of stops. The best thing to do is use a Wein cell battery, which is the correct 1.3 volts, or use a diode adapter which works with an LR44 or SR44 battery and converts it to 1.3 volts

thank you! what does the “depth of field preview button” do, what’s the use/benefit?
@japanvintagecamera8869 Жыл бұрын
With the depth of field preview, you can see through the viewfinder how much is in focus. Normally the aperture is kept wide open to make the image brighter and easier to focus, the preview will make the image darker, but let you know how much is in focus.
