Olympus service centre in Europe told me the stuck shutter could not be repaired of my OM-D EM-1, which I bought second hand a few weeks ago and sent it back un-repaired. Beforehand the repair cost was estimated at €250. How is it possible that they do not know this simple and free solution? Thank you very much for posting this video. I now have a working camera again instead of an expensive paper weight.

Unfortunately this is only a very temporary solution. After a few shots, the shutter is stuck again. So I'm still stuck with an expensive paper weight :-(

Thank you. Tried it on my EM 5 original. Seems to have worked. Time will tell. The problem was that the camera shut down after 1 shot. 40 minutes later the problem returned.

I just tried this on my OM-5 and it worked, although I didn't actually proceed past the Reset/Cancel Screen. Thanks for this information as I always like a way to factory reset just in case. Couldn't find it elsewhere.

Doesn't work on my old EM-10.1, the screen is completely blank, (not dead because you can see a weak backlighting) when you turn it on, turning on holding the menu button doesn't do anything. Shutter still stuck.

@@cristibaluta still Dead, cost too much to fix a EM-10 mk i. fixed rate repairs are more than used value. And there's a good chance they may decline if parts not available. 10 years old.

Hey I have this problem too! Cannot do hard reset because the screen is black so pressing/unpressing menu button won’t show menu.. shutter still stuck.

Hard reset, versus Factory reset... I was getting no where with the factory reset.. The hard reset fixed everything! OM-D E-M1 Mark II.. 👍👍 PS: You will have to go into the menu to reapply your personal settings, as they were removed in the hard reset..

Hi, thanks for your video. I have the same camera, and i have a problem with shooting pictures in high speeds (up than 1/1000s x example). Randomly some pictures are entirely blacks. That happend not always. Do you know this problem in the OMD-EM5? Thank you in advance.

My em 1 mark lll drains the battery in 4-6 hours without photographing and being turned off. I am go to try this to find out if this works for this problem too?

I am having the issue described. When I turn it on I just hear the shutter chik-chik. Unfortunately nothing comes on the lcd screen when I turn it on holding menu (black but with backlight). Any further troubleshooting I can do before I just have to replace it?

I'm in the same boat as you mate. I just played around with the HDR1 mode where it does exposure bracketing. Now my shutter curtains are down and it does that tick tick sound. Hope you have some luck with your camera :)

Same issue here- per the forums we may have a stuck shutter which can only be fixed by replacement… bummer.

The reset procedure worked, but it did not fix my stuck shutter. It only opens when I take a lens off and press the button. Seems to be a common failure mode.

Thanks for the tips, but what about if the shutter is blocked and for this reason the software doesn’t starts, and the camera shut off after a fews second automatically. 😢

Didn 't fix the power on problem with my Olympus Stylus 1 that only starts when battery is inserted while pressing power button but it did get to the hard reset menu as discribed.

worked a charm for me as in getting it hard reset. thanks a lot. on another note tho... i cannot get it connected to the oi share app as it use to be. doesn't have non of it.. no qr code... doesn't come up with wife... and it just got back from service tho those things are all (presumably) still ok. as i haven't used the camera much since... any idea? i'm quite certain there us to be just the qr code and it was easy as to set up.. but since they relaunced, doesn't like it at all :) maybe u have an idea? even after the hard reset still nah... :(

"Sensor and mirror were not visible" ? Isn't this a 'mirrorless camera' The viewfinder doesn't look through the lens directly, it views an electronic screen doesn't it?

It was not helpful, mine turns off after few sec it realises the shutter is not working, i believe the problem is mechanical.
