I think the alternate zoom beside the lens is for video work - a bit slower and smoother so you don't get jumpy zooms...

Hello, the 2 possibiltys to zoom are to use diffrent speed. so you can zoom smooth in video while holding the camera with both hands and zooming with the front wheel, and zoom fast when zooming with one hand shootign fotos or inverse if you prefer.

I'd worry a bit about the built in lens cover. What if the cam is on the those flaps are open ... I have the feel that you can tear them off kinda if you are not careful enough ...(?)

Just found out about your question on the 2 separate zoom levers - the one on the shutter button is for stills and zooms very fast - the one on the lens is for video and is meant to zoom slower for video - and I think there is an option to dictate how fast you want the zoom which is superb I assume the lens cap is a screw on as I have seen some pics with out it - I wished they had put the C1 C2 on the OMD-EM1 and EM-5 and EM-10 Questions - Is there threads to put on a ND filter ( for additional stop downs ) ? Can the built in flash control TTL other Olympus flashes ? Can you assign say Art mode 10 B/W to Fn2 button ? Can you assign say Art mode 10 B/W fo C1 or C2 ? thanks

Excellent first look video, this could just tempt me away from my NEX-6, trade off for sensor size, but no more lens swapping! So just exactly how do you get your hands on one of only 2 in the country???? :-)

I noticed that the shutter speed is bit slow 1/2000. Will it cause problem taking picture in bright sunny day? What do you think about that? If yes how can we overcome of it? Waiting for your reply as I am planning to buy this camera. I am confused between Olympus Stylus 1 and Canon G16.

Not a fan of reviews that are pre-production and largely just “I thinks”. But I do have and love this non-cool, unpopularity contest N,S,C line up. Kudos to the blue jay!

Like Olympus - love my OMD-5 - like the metal buttons, reminds me of my Panasonic GX1 - Viewfinder is nice - but looks large - no doubt a great camera - I guess it should compete with the RX100M2 and Fuji X20 - and maybe the Panasonic LX7 and GM1 and Pentax Q. Sony RX100M2 has larger sensor and so does Fuji X20 and Panasonic GM1 has much larger sensor but not a builtin lens. Stylus1 is interesting - F2.8 with that zoom range is super but Sensor is small so ISO performance might be below RX100M2 for part of the zoom range at least. Then again the Pentax Q has a small sensor and is quite impressive not quite as good as RX100M2 or say GM1 - It is smaller than OMD-5 but it is quite chunkier then say the RX100M2 and GM1 and Pentax Q but then of course it has the nice viewfinder as well and tilt LCD - I like the no lens cap and all in one zoom range which is great and F2.8. I am just worried that it will not keep up in ISO - I am thinking though that it is not that much smaller than my OMD-5 or my GX7 with say the Panasonic 35-100 F2.8 super nice lens or the 12-24 F2.8 that I might spring for the stylus1 also as it is not really pocket able that the Sony RX100m2 still is the king of pocket able cameras with quite a bit larger sensor but not as nice of a zoom and not as fast of a lens.

Hey Jamie. It's pretty much the same as the EZ-2 with an EVF which costs about $350 now. Do you think it's worth it to spend that kind of money for an EVF. Besides the EZ 2 comes with a brighter lens f1.8-2.5.

I personally prefer the XZ-2 for the form factor. I like to stuff it into my pocket. :) The Stylus 1 is not going to fit quite as nicely in my cargo pants but it DOES has its merits. That zoom is incredible, and the fact it is a constant f/2.8 is worth it. I guess it all comes down to budget and what you prefer in a form factor. :)

Thanks Jamie. Just got the z2 for $350. Can't say that it does low light very well. Maybe I just need to know how to set it up. Any suggestion for taking night club/stage photo without flash on the Z2? I put in the 'night scene' mode and it's ok only. Ithink this mode is intended to use with the flash pop up.

Yeah the XZ-2 is only gonna to take you so far in low light because its sensor size is so small compared to say a 4/3 or other sensor. Not sure I'd make that my go to clubbing cam. BUT...if you want try shooting this way: Aperture Priority Wide open at f/1.8 Spot metering Cap ISO at 1600 That's how I'd shoot a club or small venue concert.

caribber1 There are two focus mechanisms on the camera. One offers a really smooth zoom that would be more for video, the other is more the traditional focus.

I saw a few videos on youtube with video recording for this camera. .. they seem to have a lot of noise when Zooming in and out... can u please tell me if you saw a lot of noise captures in the video when recoding and zooming... also how good is the auto focus

Michael, I haven't experienced that at all. That is very odd. You wouldn't happen to have a link you could share to the videos is there? If noise is that obvious I'd like to forward that video on to the tech dept.!

Jamie MacDonald You can only hear the motor noise on playback...and the microphone level drops when you're zooming on this model. Motor noise on zoom is a common problem with Olympus cameras and it annoys the hell out of me that they haven't fixed this problem.

Gotcha. Yeah that problem doesn't exist on the Mirrorless cameras using lenses with the MSC designation. Those are designed with video in mind and are silent. The compact cameras use a different drive system.

Just a note on what I see many reviews mention about the Stylus 1 - seems most like it but most also complain about price like Cnet etc. Seems after Sony bought a huge chunk in Olympus that they have learned Sony pricing :) - I think they make great senors - otherwise others would not be buying sensors from them like Nikon - However I do feel they charge a bit more then the competition - Take for example their new FE mount lenses for the A7/R - $1000 for a Zeiss 55mm F1.8 and $800 for the 35mm F2.8 and a slow 70-200 F4 at $3000 - I bought a fantastic 70-200 F2.8 Pro grade Panasonic form my M43 cameras for $1000 - Sony owns Zeiss so could charge less then when it was Carl Zeiss - OMD-M1 is a real nice camera but at $1400 a bit steep - $500 more than OMD-EM5 - and Nikon D7100 is $1100 - not sure if OMD-M1 is $500 dollar better than OMD-EM5 - I think Sony pricing has crept in :) I think it is nice that Sony invested in Olympus but not excited about the Sony pricing

Obviously I can't comment on the pricing of product but I will be glad to tell you that in MY opinion there IS $500 worth of improvements over the E-M5. Now are they improvements you "need"? Or are they improvements you want? They are mostly wants on my end. The EVF is so much bigger,and more clear than the E-M5, noise handling is even better, the IS is better (autodetect of panning), and come on....The WiFi is incredible. I use it a fair amount actually. Again, those are my opinions, but if you explore flickr and the m4/3 groups you'll see that the people who own both cameras have nothing but praise for the E-M1

This isn't a 2.8. Its a 2.8 for Full Frame. Convert it to a micro 4/3 , its a 5.6 aperture. Get it right so you can sell it right.

Actually it IS f/2.8. It is f/2.8 relative to the sensor it is working in conjunction with. That and you must be assuming this is a mFT sensor size and trying to apply the “half of full frame” rationale. But it is NOT an mFT sensor. If it WERE an mFT sensor and we did use your rationale, then the f/2.8 opening on this lens, when overlaid onto a FF sensor would equate to f/5.6. Nice try though and thanks for watching!

Yeah, all wrong this time. Better talking to cats than talking to a camera, ss it seems from your neighbours point of view. It's definitely no Baby OM-D, it's much like a xz-1/2 with a 300mm lens on it plus integrated EVF. Even the birds and dogs are excited about it. It doesn't even say OM-D on it, so what the heck, man?
