Great detailed video, thanks very much for posting as it was very helpful in contributing to my purchase decision.Very impressed with the Tg6 so far. Mainly using it for underwater macro video work, I also use it with the Olympus PT-059 housing. Amazed at the quality footage this is producing. I normally shoot at 1080 60fps which gives that nice flexibility of slowing down in post.

I am new to the TG series. To be clear, at 2.50, the cover shown is an optional item. But it does come with an unscrewable transparent cover as seen at 0.21. One important item that should be mentioned is there is no Manual Mode, so you cannot set the shutter speed directly, except when you alter the exposure comp setting or play around with the scene settings. Aperture priority with limited to 3 steps e.g. Tele 4.9,6.3,18, Wide 2, 2.8, 8 norm 2.3, 3.2, 9. I'm treating this camera as a fun camera to shoot on rainy days. There aren't many alternative waterproof camera that give you full manual control without needing a large bulky and expensive housing. You got to realise this camera is relatively cheap so don't expect all bells and whistles. Even nowadays a camera phone has more functionality. But isn't as rugged as this. This camera seems well built and the seals at entry points seem good. I am using this camera on holidays when it is raining and my A7riii would get soaked, full of condensation which takes ages to get rid of fogged lenses and viewfinder. Wish there was an optional lenshood which could help reduce flare but also protect the lens from rain droplets when shooting in raining. Please do correct me if I have any facts wrong.

Action Cameras use CCD and Tough Cameras use CMOS. CMOS gives better low light images but they suffer from jello effect when shaken. Which you pick should depend on how whether you're shooting action shots or low light.

HiBit of a long shot don't know if anyone can help?I am travelling in the next few weeks and like the look of the TG6. I have an old Canon DSLR that I don't want to carry around. Though I like taking photos I am still after many many years pretty useless on the technical side. I want an easy to use rugged camera. Will not do underwater shots.Unfortunately I do not have much time to get used to the camera before I'm off. My fault! Can you recommend some easy to locate settings for landscape/street photography. I'm ok with iSO but the rest more or less baffles me and I've never used an Olympus before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Like a TG-5 but with higher resolution rear monitor. TG-5 had alot more updates Than TG-4 but for fast motion video the TG-4 focusing out of the box worked best. TG-5 & TG-6 change focus from centre spot to average area. Amazing quality compared to Go pros.

I have no idea the extent to which this reviewer has actually owned and used the TG-6...but I have now gone through two of them over the course of several years. BOTH cameras failed me underwater, and NO I did not forget to close the compartments correctly :). The first camera failed snorkeling at a depth of 2 feet in the Philippines, and had been purchased with an Asurion warranty through Amazon and my money was fully refunded. WIth this money I bought a new TG-6 Touch camera, and while snorkeling in the Caribbean the second camera again failed me. The second time the leak was through another compartment. I just ordered a used TG-6 camera (renewed/excellent condition) again from Amazon plus a warranty. So, my lesson learned? 1. the camera is great, but never use it underwater without a separate housing. The camera is rugged for hiking and can handle the cold.

I can't speak to that personally, as this review was done right before Imaging Resource went dark, and the staff that tested it are no longer around. Failing at 2' is abysmal though. I can see why you'd be upset.

Because there aren't many differences to speak of, the TG-6 is basically a TG-5 with a firmware update and a couple button/dial changes. Disappointing update. I own a TG3 and a TG5, my TG3 takes better photos and video than my TG5

In our Preview (and subsequent Field Tests) we'll certainly discuss and take a look at the key differences. Just a suggestion on you video technique. Most of the time, the TG-6 is a small object in the middle of the screen - too small to see what’s on the LCD. Most of the image is your hands, sleeves, and blank space (which are not of interest). Zoom in so the camera itself is large in the frame so we can see the camera as you manipulate it.

One issue not mentioned is there’s no protection for the front glass, the cameras promoted as tough & shown on beaches & in rivers. These environments have sand & as there’s no way of putting a protective filter then the glass can be scratched. Getting it repaired costs around £150. Saying you don’t have to worry about anything is misleading, on every camera I own there’s a filter to avoid this issue but non of the so called Olympus Tough cameras have a way of protecting the glass from accidents. How easy would it to have had a clip on front glass to protect the expensive to replace piece at the front of the camera

DO NOT BUY. I had the predecessor. The little door to the usb-connector broke off due to a stupid accident. It appears that Olympus doesn't repair camera's as soon as the 2 year warranty period has passed. You cannot get it repaired anywhere else, because it is a specific part only available via Olympus. So if something happens and you'd need a repair, you can just throw your camera away after the 2 year warranty period has passed. I tried to contact Olympus on this, but they don't even react on my request for a solution. The customer service of this company is so terribly lousy. .. It's a good camera, but as soon as some accident happens and you need a repair you're busted. My advise would be: NEVER buy Olympus.
