I was wondering if the timber rattlesnake here in Kentucky is hemotoxic or neorotoxic I have read they can produce both
@OlympusReptiles5 жыл бұрын
They can. I would guess likely hemotoxic, but I am not an expert on Kentucky reptiles. I know neuro timbers are more to the South, like Florida. I believe Kentucky has a very large venomous keeper who has a lot of timbers. They would likely know better than me.

Like to act as a mentor via video? I don't think video can replace an actual mentor. However, if wanting small details in short videos on ideas and what I think, etc could do that.

Here in Wisconsin the bounty they used to have on the timbers devastated them. They are enjoying protection since 1998 tho and they are coming back. there seem to be more every year when we go visit the dens we know of.
@OlympusReptiles Жыл бұрын
They breed so slow. The western diamondback has a huge range, breeds fast and is prolific. They have been proven reselient and honestly hunting them (not stitching mouths shut etc) doesn't bother me as long as populations are watched, monitored by state (just like deer) and destructive practices eliminated. Easter diamondback, while bigger is not prolific, smaller range, and they have been pushed almost out and need protected everywhere. Timbers breed so slowly, many places protect them. A few still allow for collection, which is a bit concerning because I don't know if they monitor each species separately or just overall collection of rattlesnakes. My timber came from the wild of oklahoma. But to avoid population destruction, I made sure I had a male. They only produce every 3 years or so in the wild, small broods. That is what has led to humans so easily pushing them to eradication in so many areas, and to protected in most others. Glad they are making a comeback in Wisconsin!

Thanks for sharing. The Timber Rattlesnake is one of my favorite reptile species. It's the only rattlesnake species we have here in the mountains of east Tennessee. I find as many black phase as I do yellow phase and am fortunate to be able to see them on a consistent basis within 4 miles of my home. However their numbers are slowly dwindling. I disagree with taxonomist in lumping the Canebrake and the Timber together as one species. Other biologist that I know feel the same way.

I Live in Western Rutland County, Vermont. We get nasty winters and have had a pretty healthy population at White Rocks Mountain until recently a fungal disease has come like wildfire and almost wiped them out completely, much like white nose syndrome has done to our bats. Its a mystery. Hope it doesnt go any further south.Anyway, incredible animals and he's beautiful. Before Ford and the apple pie, there was the Crotalus Horridus! Great videos.

We have it here in Penna... I figured it was from the bats as well.. Our bats awoke early a decade ago from it and many starved. I am sure they encounter many bats stopping in crevices they eat and probably caught the fungal\bacteria.. I did not know you guys had it as well.. I also wondered if these warm winters aided because even our Deer ticks are out with six inches of snow.. Epidemic!!!!! Ash Borer Beetle wiping our all our ash trees..Crazy!! Now Spotted Lantern fly... Under attack!!!

It is hard to find. Best way is to LEGALLY collect one. Many places it is protected, so make sure you are legal. Also they breed slow so only take a male

They should be separate in my opinion, venom is different, color is different, canebrakes winter solo in gopher holes and northern timbers have a community hibernation spot that they return to every year. super cool snake, also I think the Timber should be the national animal over the bald eagle, bald eagles go from Canada to Guatemala. Timber Rattlesnakes are only in the good old U.S.A. Cool video man.

Don't you feel he would be happier free in the woods where he could rule his own area?
@OlympusReptiles6 жыл бұрын
julie beal no, because he wouldn't rule. While a rattlesnake is a predator, ut isn't an alpha predator. It is as much the hunted as the hunter (especially by our eagles, Hawks, etc). So, here it never has a predator fear (other than how it may see some humans). Perfect environment, and tons of food. Snake is pretty content with that.

Olympus Reptiles we have a snake Rodeo here locally and I've had both. I didn't notice a difference in flavor, however there is a difference in consistency... the diamondbacks are tougher and the timbers are not tender by any means, but more so than the previous.
